My carbon footprint is worse, not better.
The widest stair cover still isn't wide enough for the size of attic stairs we use here in Houston. In fact I think you will probably find it difficult to get a good fit in most homes even if the attic gap is 25 inches. Instead you will wind up with a bad seal and something that doesn't deliver on its promises.
A better solution would be to mount an inch of styrofoam on the top of your attic door and don't polute the environment by bringing into existence this bit of waste sold here. You'll get just as much insulation out of it.
