Tools and Hardware Reviews of 2x4basics 14429 Workbench and Shelving Storage System with Hooks and Clamps

Customer Review: Easy Assembly -- Very sturdy!
Summary: 5 Stars

Easy to assemble. Buy your own lumber for the size bench you need. Very sturdy. Added shelf components a plus. Instructions are OK, but not great. One error on instructions - don't use a 3/8" drill bit for the screw holes - that's too big. Use a 3/16" bit.

Bottom Line: Economical + sturdy + easy to assemble = Very satisfied!

Customer Review: Easy to assemble
Summary: 5 Stars

I really like this workbench kit. I assembled it for a bench in my basement. It was very easy to assemble. I didn't even need to cut the 2x4 pieces or the bench top. My local Lowe's cut them to size for me. The only improvement I would suggest is to use screws with a star drive rather than the phillips drive screws included.

I liked the first kit so much I have ordered a second kit for the garage.

Customer Review: Easy to assemble -- but you provide your own wood!
Summary: 3 Stars

The package was shipped timely, but I had mistakenly thought that it would include the wood needed for the shelves and 2 x 4 lumber. Still, no problem -- bought the wood separately at Home Depot, and assembled the workbench, with 2 helpers, in about 2 hours. The workbench legs are plastic, not metal, but they are strong and light and were easy to work with during the assembly. You can select the dimensions of the shelves and the 2 x 4 stringers to customize the size and shape of the workbench. Also, the brackets for the supplemental shelving allow you to custom-design that part of the unit as well.

Assembly directions come in the form of pictures on a fold-out sheet of paper -- requiring some study before starting -- but very logical.

I now have a very sturdy workbench in my workshop and am enjoying it.

Customer Review: Easy to build...
Summary: 5 Stars

My dad and I built 4' x 3' workbench with 2 shelves a couple weeks ago. I used the shelflinks to creat supports for a peg board on the back of the work bench. I will do like others and mount a light and power strip. I did my research before purchasing and knew lumber *was not* included.

Customer Review: Easy to bulit.
Summary: 5 Stars

I finished a 3x6 workbench in less then four hours and only two trips to the hardware store. Having a power drill and miter saw helped. It is much better than the ready-to-assemble that you find at Lowes or Home Depot. The total cost of the kit, lumber, and a light fixure was just under $140, tax included!
