My lovely bride purchased this kit for me through Amazon, then bought all the necessary lumber for a 6' x 3' workbench to be used in my gunsmithing pursuits. I just might have to keep her around awhile !
The pre-cut lumber was first painted with Valspar black enamel paint to match the rest of the kit. Since my son installs custom cabinets, he helped me apply a black plastic textured laminate (think "Formica") to the work surface - 3/4" MDF board cut to size. This baby was going to be heavy-duty.
Once all the wood was cut, painted, and gathered, getting it all put together was pretty easy...... with two of us working on it, plus a clamp to act as an extra pair of hands. A good portable bit driver is your best friend here - the included screws went in easy and grabbed hard. A few adjustments along the way made sure everything was straight and true as possible. The old adage "Measure twice, cut once" definitely applies. Putting it all together took maybe an hour or so, once all the prep work was done.
Once assembled, this thing would probably hold a small rhino.....it's not going anywhere. Painting the 2x4 lumber before assembly gives it a finished look that adds much to the finished product. Just try to have a helper around when you put it all together, especially if it's a larger project. If I had tried this by myself I know it would have taken much longer and probably would not look half as good.
If you're the least bit handy and in need of a heavy-duty workbench, this fits the bill perfectly. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was the need for a helper, but your mileage may vary. Excellent product.
