Tools and Hardware Reviews of 30 inch Tower Fan - 84001 Tower FanCustomer Review: Good value for a good fan Summary: 4 Stars
Reliable and functions. Much less expensive than "ionic breeze" or other yuppie products one might get at the S.I. Has three fan settings and is very quiet. Doesn't stir up dust and blow it around like a traditional fan does. Only draw back is that it does not have a filter.
Customer Review: Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
Great Product; blows a lot of air; very quiet when in slow or medium mode; good response to remote control direction; only one complaint; it was advertised as white in color and it is really beige.
Customer Review: Great for the price Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this same fan for $35 in Walmart over the weekend for a family member in Hospice who has problems being too warm, mostly choosing it because I felt it wouldn't take up too much space in his hospital room. It is really wonderful and cools him down just fine. I am so glad I made the choice to purchase it & the price was certainly right!
I do need to add though that the remote control & manual were missing from the box, so I had some difficulties putting it together - I'm just not good at that sort of thing. I really didn't mind not having the remote control though.
Customer Review: Not too shabby Summary: 4 Stars
The fan is pretty good. Not too noisy, and puts out good quantities of air. The only reason I rank it 4 instead of 5 is because the 1st fan didn't work...which I wouldn't have minded, except I had sent it as a gift. Oops. 2nd one works perfectly though.
Customer Review: Squirrel cage fans are better! Summary: 3 Stars
These new tower fans are a significant improvement on the traditional airplane propeller style fans in that they occupy vertical space versus horizontal space. The squirrel cage design allows a higher output of air with less noise than a traditional propeller.
I have had this unit for a couple of years now and have for the most part be very pleased with it.
The base controls do what you need it to do; power, fan speed, oscillate. The timer can be useful if you are trying to save electricity. The sleep/breeze mode is mostly a gimmick due to the sound of the fan speed surging while operating in some of these modes. The remote control can be pretty useful, with a decent operating range from across a 10' room. The remote isn't very ergonomic and they apparently thought that writing out the button functions in English was a better alternative than using the icons seen on the actual fan.
I have two gripes though about the fan, one major and one minor:
The major problem I have with this fan is that after about 6 months, I noticed what appeared to be grease dripping from the base of the fan housing. Turning on the oscillation verified that the grease that kept the oscillation mechanism silent had emptied out and now it makes an annoying 'grinding' noise when oscillating. I have attempted to disassemble the outer housing to lubricate the plastic gears, but have not had much success in quieting it back down. The minor problem is that due to the age, the bearings holding the squirrel cage tower are starting to go, causing occasional wobbling sounds when the unit is operating. Most often this can be cured by turning off the fan and turning it back on.
Other than that, it does what it is supposed to do. The price is a little more than I would expect it to cost, being made in China and all, but I have been pleased with it where other floor fans have gummed up with dust and other debris, causing them to fail over the long haul.
