Customer Review: Digital Tuning So-So

I had a pair of Peltor analog tuning phones and the on/off-volume button wore out after 2-3 years. I got the digital tuning ones. They are fine but for two things: 1) the right earcup isn't the same as the left earcup. Somehow it's shaped slightly differently and squeezes my ear. I can live with that.
2) the digital tuner will NOT pick up Green 960 AM radio station as clearly as the analog phones did. There is ALWAYS slight static in the background.Why? The analog ones were better for me but I've learned to live with the digital static.Too bad.

The headset with digital tuning is the way to go. Reception is good as expected for a small headset. The muffs do block out external noise nicely. The only complaint is how tight they fit. My head is small to normal size but feel the pressure after wearing awhile. No easy was to losen the tension. Otherwise these are great for mowing.Customer Review: Disappointing reception

I purchased these hearing protectors despite noticing comments from a few reviewers complaining of poor AM reception. I should have heeded their warnings. While the ear cups are quite comfortable and do a good job attenuating external sounds (I use them primarily while on my riding lawnmower but also when running power tools such as a table saw, router, Sawzall, etc.), the AM reception was poor and inconsistent and would fade in and out whenever I turned my head. Very annoying to say the least. Even when the antenna orientation provided the 'best' signal strength, the quality of the audio was less than crisp with noticeable background noise. And this was when I was tuned in to a local station where the transmission tower is in direct line of sight roughly 3 miles away. For weaker and more distant stations the reception was even worse. (FM performance was better, but not spectacular.) I returned them to Amazon for credit and have reverted to using a pair of inexpensive hearing protectors I picked up from Harbor Freight paired with an inexpensive but very effective AM/FM pocket stereo from Aiwa (model CR-LD120). Used with stereo ear buds under the ear cups, it works just fine. I do the same when listening to my iPod. If your intent is to use these primarily for AM listening, I cannot recommend them. AO Safety needs to invest some money to improve the sensitivity and selectivity of the AM tuner circuit before I'd be tempted to try them again.Customer Review: Disappointing static

Bilsom Radio Hi-Visibility Earmuffs w/ MP3 Input.....I wanted to tell everyone I found a GREAT and I mean the best ever AM/FM hearing protection radio I've found on the market today. I looked all over and read different reviews. They were hard to find since Amazon.com doesn't sell them. THEY SHOULD SELL THEM...THEY ARE THE BEST! First off the head phones are Bilsom Radio Hi-Visibility Earmuffs with AM/FM & MP3 Input. I searched the web and found the best price at a company I have never used before called [...]. I have an old pair of the Worktunes analog/dial tuned version. They worked OK but I didn't want to chance the digital because of the reviews. When I first put the Bilsom earmuffs on and turned on the radio, I couldn't believe the sound quality. It wasn't even close to my old Worktunes. This was like a quality radio. I was only able to receive a few stations with the Worktunes but with these I think I'm able to receive as many stations as my car radio. I've used them over a two week period, using the AM, FM and the ipod adapter. I wish there was a way I could convey to everyone that is thinking of purchasing another brand to,well, don't do it! There's nothing better out there. As you can tell I can't say enough good things about them except the color. The bright neon yellow isn't the best. They might sell one that is black but the reviews I read were about the yellow ones so that's why I purchased those. They seem to weight the same as my Worktunes and the earmuffs get just as hot as the Worktunes. So far I've used them for doing the yard work (mower, blower and cutter) and various woodworking machines (table saw, planer, bandsaw) in the garage.
