I picked this up because it was recommended by America's Test Kitchen (PBS). It does one thing, but it does it well -- it will sharpen a dull edge.
It's a little freaky to use at first, cause you have to keep the edge/blade up as you pass the AccuSharp over it to sharpen. Give it a couple of passes and you're pretty much good to go (you'll see the actual metal shavings). Test the newly sharpened edge (try cutting paper). Go over it again if you don't think it's sharp enough.
For about $10, it's a MUST HAVE for every home.

This thing is so handy! We used it to sharpen a very old butcher knife to cut up meat. Sliced through a seven pound roast in 2 swipes! This worked wonders on our machette and axe! So happy with this purchase!Customer Review: Absolutely Amazing Product!

I read most of the review and thought it sounded too good to be true, but for under $10 I decided to give it a try. My husband and I were blown away at the results. I had spent 2 hours Sunday afternoon with a stone trying to sharpen my knives and they still were not as sharp as I wanted them to be, but my arm was getting tired! This little wonder arrived yesterday and within 20 minutes everything was super sharp!
I almost bought a $60 electric sharpener based on the recommendation of a friend, but decided to try this first. Best $50 I ever saved! I would recommend this to everyone, no matter what kind of knives you have. My husband used it to sharpen his pocket knife and said it has never been that sharp. This would make a great stocking stuffer or grab bag gift for Christmas - everyone has knives but I'll bet they don't have a sharpener this fantastic!

Excellent sharpener. Easy to use, great results with just a few strokes.
I had a similar unit that I bought about 15 years ago. It minally wore out; replaced with the AccuSharp 001 Knife Sharpener.
Now my kitchen and pocket knives are back with VERY sharp edges. Expect the new unit to last quite a while too. Worth the price.
