Tools and Hardware Reviews of Acu Rite Indoor Humidity MonitorCustomer Review: Cheap, not inexpensive Summary: 2 Stars
This unit is OK if you want to have a general idea of the humidity, but not for accurately monitoring humidity. The first thing I do with any hygrometer I intend to rely on is run it through a Salt Calibration test. You mix up a 1/2 cup of plain salt with water in a shallow bowl or coffee cup until it is the consistency of wet sand, seal that in a see-through, airtight bag with the hygrometer for 24 hours out of the sun and a the expected operational room temperature. The humidity in the bag will be 75%, any deviation from this is how far off your hygrometer is. Mine was off by -9%. Next I matched it with another calibrated hygrometer to test the variation at low humidity. In a 20% humidity the hygrometer dropped to being off by +4%.
The product being sold here is not adjustable, and the unit I got is off by a 13% range. Not acceptable even for a $10 hygrometer.
Customer Review: Convenient Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this mainly for the humidity guage feature. It's well made for the price and convenient to move from room to room. The temperature guage is consistent (within one degree) with the thermometer on my thermostat and the humidity guage is reasonably consistent with the local weather reports on the web. I use the humidity reading to adjust the humidistat on my forced air heating system. The "hi-low" range features work well. The humidity icon (picture of house with Hi, OK and Lo) is somewhat inconsistent, so I just use the numerical reading instead. Overall, I'm very happy with this product.
Customer Review: Couldn't Be Better! Summary: 5 Stars
This unit is so inexpensive and yet displays the current humidity and temperature; an indicator showing whether the current humidity is low, normal, or high; and the preceding 24 hour low and high temperature and humidity. The display is not backlit, so you can't view the unit in the dark. I use mine in the basement workshop and it works so well that I've ordered a couple more for upstairs.
Customer Review: DEG F may be Nearest DEG C rounded to nearest DEG F Summary: 3 Stars
Based on other reviews here I bought three of these and put them on the fridge to compare the readings. I noticed that either they agreed or that there was a two deg F difference. temps of 77 F and 79 F showed but never 78. I conclude that temps may actuly be to nearest degree C and are converted to nearest degree F. 25 C is exactly 77 F and 1 degree C= 1 and 4/5 degree F so 25 C gets you 77 F and 26 C gets you 78.8 which rounds to 79 F. I really wanted one degree F resolution.
I have only had these a weekend I could be mistaken I will watch for 78 F and if I see It I will update this review.
Otherwise the product performs well.
Customer Review: Description LIES - does NOT do daily min/max Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this to monitor daily min and max readings in my greenhouse as the product description says it does this. IT DOES NOT. The only way to reset the Min and Max is to remove the battery!
Anyone wanting permanent Min/Max might like this item but if you want daily (as most folks do) then it will not do this!
I probably should return it but it is hardly worth it for the price.
