Customer Review: Air-O-Swiss Product
Summary: 3 Stars

This review is for the product itself and not the supplier. The supplier got it out to me very fast. The product has to be cleaned too often. The filter must be changed more often than the manufacturer says to keep down the emissions. If you use it period, 24/7 or 6 hours at night, it has to be cleaned often. It emits a white powder which I believe is calcium all over everything within 10 feet, be it the tv, dresser, hardwood floors etc. I have it set upon a stool aboaut 3-4 feet high but the steam goes up and what goes up must come down. White powder all over everthing. So, while it had great reviews and that is the reason I purchased it, I would not have bought it had I known about the emissions. The positive side of the unit, is that it does help me to wake up with a less-than-normal sore throat from allergies. That is good, so I use it anyway. I just wish it did not have all the emissions of white powder.

Customer Review: Alicia's humidifier

My granddaughter visited me recently and slept in a room with this humidifier in it and never had a better night's sleep. So I bought her one. She is thrilled.

Customer Review: An unemotional, engineer's PRODUCT review
Summary: 4 Stars

A very good humidifier, but with a couple of flaws. Very quiet, pumps out lots of warm mist at close to the 3.5 gal/day quoted rate. As such, the tank needs to be filled 2x daily if used full bore in a larger room. As with any ultrasonic humidifier that I've used, filling the tank can be cumbersome and, as some have pointed out, this tank has no flat surface to rest it on, making it unstable. But ignore comments about leaking, placement, etc. because they have NOTHING to do with the model, but more the style of humidifier (ultrasonic). Flaws: more white dust than usual with hard water because the filter has a design flaw. The washer seal on the tank plunger is supposed to double as a filter "anti-bypass" seal, but allows water to bypass the filter (it's undersized). Also, the humidity controller "hunts" on and off when the setpoint is reached, rapidly turning the mist on and off - very annoying in the middle of the night. (For you engineers, there is no "hysteresis" in the control loop.) To avoid this, you need to raise the humidity setpoint higher than desired and lower the fan speed to keep the room level fairly constant, essentially turning the humidifier into a manual control model. (So why spend $200 for the fancy controls?) All in all, it pumps out humidity, it's easy to clean, it's very quiet, it's relatively easy to fill, the humidity is nice and warm (and doesn't freeze out the room), my throat no longer croaks in the morning, and my eyes aren't fused shut. BTW, we live in bone dry Colorado with forced hot air, and the unit is in a ~600 sq. ft BR with a 15' ceiling and adjoining master bath. It does the job nicely if run constantly. I would imagine that the reports about hard water being a big problem are right on. Still, for us: 4 stars.

Customer Review: Beautiful design but the built in humidity detector has major flaw
Summary: 3 Stars

I just got this beautiful designed humidifier and was hoping to retired my older version of the air-o-swiss 7135 (the one with blue see through tank)and I was very disappointed how the newer version I just got. I set it 45% humidity and set it in my living room. the humidity detector just can't accurately detect how humid it is in the room and keep pumping the mist. At first I thought maybe it's the size of my living room so i left it on then went do some grocery shopping. When I get back home, the moment I opened the front door I sense the humidity is high in the room (I guess the unit just keeps pumping the mist) and I went to check the "current humidity" it still says 32 ~ 40 and never can reach 45% as I wanted. but then I put the older version (the one with blue tank) at the same place, it humidified the room quickly up to 45% and the mist stopped and when the humidity dropped below 45% then it start pumping the mist.

Yes the newer version has more beautiful and modern design and look to it but if you have to pay almost $100 more for the newer version and the humidity detector is not working as well as the older one (with blue tank), then what's the point? the whole point of paying for a more expensive humidifer is that it will automatically detect the room's humidity and maintaine the desired humidity level.

So I am gonna return this unit, and get another older verion with the blue tank # 7135.

As other reviewers mentioned about the leak at the bottom, white dust, I didn't experience any of it. I love how it looks, and definitly can humidify the room to a higher level of humidity but was very unhappy how they just slap in a cheap & not accurate humidity detector in. some engineer from Air-O-Swiss who designed this unit should be fired!

Customer Review: Best Humidifier I Have Tried
Summary: 4 Stars

I have been using wick-based humidifiers for the past few years in the bedroom. Last year I noticed every morning when I woke and I used the humidifier, I was constantly congested. I stopped using it and looked for another type, leery of vaporizer types because of past experience with white dust.

I found this AOS 7142....pricey, and I was worried about white dust...but I liked the concept of the silver bar to inhibit bacteria growth and the demineralization cartridge to minimize dust.

I have been very impressed so far. No lung congestion. No white dust....I live in the Dallas area.

Pros: effective, silent, maintained 600 ft bedroom at 50%; choice of warm mist (I think this setting works better, but more $$ to operate) or cold mist, styling, controls, full tank at full blast lasted about 14 hours.

Cons: filling water tank; it has a handle to carry water container back to unit, but none on the other side to hold the container when filling it....and it gets heavy. Plus the container cannot stand by itself upside down and tips over.

If it wasn't for this latter design flaw, I would give it 5 stars, but good enough to make me buy another one for my home office.
