Tools and Hardware Reviews of Air-O-Swiss AOS 7144 Ultrasonic Humidifier

Customer Review: Empty indicator keeps flashing - 2nd unit with same issue
Summary: 1 Stars

There was another review where this problem was observed... The first unit I bought worked well for 3 days, then the Empty indicator goes on while the tank is still full. I can just life up the water tank by half an inch and put it back down, and you can hear water going down into the base unit, and it runs for another 2 minutes, then the indicator goes on again. I returned the unit and got another one, and sure enough, this time the same problem happened after the first 5 minutes of running it. And I made sure I soaked the cartridge for 24 hours prior to first use. It's too bad, I was so looking forward to using this unit everyday. Now I'm contemplating whether to try another unit ur just give up and go for a different brand... If anyone else knows of the trick, let me know!

FYI, as many others mentioned, it does leave the area around it damp. I ended up running a fan next to it to help disburse the vapor, but that kind of defeats the idea of the unit being so magically quiet when the fan is making noise next to it. I still love the amount of steam it can put out when it's working though.

Customer Review: Excellent humdifier with a caveat
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a fantastic humdifier. The caveat is that it does not work with soft water. We didn't know this when we bought it and shortly after receiving this item and plugging it in noticed that there was almost like a fog in our house. I commented on it and my wife just more or less blew it off until the next day when she asked if the air tastes salty to me. After doing a bit of research we discovered that the demineralization cartridge doesn't remove the salt from soft water. There are only two solutions: use distilled water and remove the demineralization cartridge (at approximately two gallons a day this is just too expensive) or use hard water. Once we switched to hard water the problem completely went away.

Customer Review: Excellent humidifier
Summary: 5 Stars

This humifier is ideal for a bedroom. It keeps the humidy where I set it (40%) with no problem. 40% is about right for a healthy sleeping environment. The tank must be refilled every day or 2, depending on prevailing dryness. I found refilling the tank easy. It uses regular tap water and has built-in facilities for removing minerals and bacteria. Just follow the instructions. I found a single unit is not adequate to keep our music room at 45%. This is a fairly large living room. I have a number of guitars and I am a fanatic about humidity. I have had instrument damage done in the past by both too little and too much humidity. I bought three of these units and am going to buy another one. Recommended.

Customer Review: Good not perfect

1) Ultrasonic is quieter than most other types
2) Can achieve a set humidity level and maintain it
3) Heater for mist
4) Sleek looking

Negatives:
1) Quieter than most but still has a fan that runs all the time and bothers me.
2) "sleep" program is preset to only 6 hours
