Tools and Hardware Reviews of Alltrade 150003 Auto-Loading Squeeze Utility Knife

Customer Review: A Tank of a Utility Knife
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a well-made utility knife. The auto-loading squeeze handle snaps the blade out firmly, and the release button retracts the blade into the knife housing. The knife is well-constructed and should stand up to daily abuse. The easily-accessed spare blades compartment is also a plus. There are however two shortcomings - (1) the knife is quite heavy, so if you use the knife a lot it will fatique your hand and arm quicker than other utility knives, and (2) the blade only snaps out all the way, you cannot release the blade just a little bit at all, it is all or nothing at all.

Summary: 5 Stars

I love this Utility Knife, it is so easy to use, (although I find it a bit heavy for me a lady)nevertheless, I liked it so much that I purchased several to give away as presents. My husband also finds it easy and convenient to use.

Thank You.

Customer Review: Alltrade Squeeze Utility Knife
Summary: 5 Stars

This item is superb!!! For any of those utility knife jobs around the house this one makes it a breeze to handle. Convenient one hand operation. Blades easy to replace and since they store on the item no having to look around for the replacements. Love this item so I ordered some for some friends

Customer Review: Amazon should give these away (maybe they are).
Summary: 5 Stars

My primary use for this device is cutting and flattening all of those boxes I receive from Amazon. Frustrated with the Exacto knives my wife gave me for this purpose (I'd misplace them, or the blade would break off with even moderate pressure, or I'd cut myself), I started taking our kitchen knives to the boxes--until my wife caught me. So here I am with this auto-loading, squeeze-handled gizmo that in some respects feels like overkill for cutting through cardboard and tape, but it sure is effective. In addition, it's hazard-free, hard to lose, and even fun to use (now I know how Clint Eastwood must feel with a .45 in his hand).

Though it wasn't free, Amazon made my day by discounting the item by sixty-five percent. As for a couple of previous reviewers' complaints about the difficulty of closing the blade, simply squeeze the handle slightly, thereby taking some pressure off of the spring, before hitting the close button. (You wouldn't want a hair-trigger mechanism or the blade would be unstable.) If you have a thumb and 4 fingers, it's a simple and quick, one-handed maneuver.

Customer Review: Best . . . knife . . . ever!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is simply the best utility knife I've ever used! I absolutely LOVE the way the blade extends and retracts with a satisfying snap by squeezing the bar on the bottom of the handle (blade extends) and pressing a button on the side (blade retracts). And, as others have said, changes are so easy you might actually use a sharp blade instead of not bothering!

I personally feel the weight and balance of the knife, and the amount of pressure needed to extend the blade are perfect. I've bought enough to replace all my other utility knives (yes, I have many, in different places), and get a kick out of these every time I use them. My family makes fun of me, and I show the knives off to other guys who all love them.

Some reviewers thought it took too much pressure to extend the blade, or that the knife is too heavy. I don't find that at all -- and I'm being honest, not trying to be macho! -- but, out of fairness, my wife and kids seem to find that to be the case and don't love these knives like I do.

BTW, it's true they don't have intermediate positions (part way out). I don't miss it since you can always use the knife at an angle to keep the blade shallow and avoid cutting too deep.

Isn't it sick that I am so enthusiastic about a utility knife? Get one and maybe you will be, too!
