Amazon is usually a price leader, but this is available elsewhere for less, even considering sales tax. I love this knife. I had one for 5 years and lost it one day and had to find another. Lowe's and Home Depot stopped carrying it (bad move on their part), in favor of more expensive and less functional knives by Stanley and other companies.
Easy to open/close, great grip for big hands, tough and durable in any application, blade changes are quick as lightning, and extra blade compartment is easy to fill.

Your thumb isn't always releasing the blade when you bear down to cut tough items such as wood shingles in my case, Then theirs the quick blade flip and change for jobs that dull the blade fast. Even the storage chamber is well designed, quick and easy to use. Lastly the fast easy release button retracts the blade with ease so your not tempted to leave it exposed and dangerous. I have owned this knife for several years and love it. Although it has been dropped several times and continued to function without missing a beat. Unfortunately today a small piece that the blade slot hooks unto has broken off. I was in the middle of trimming carpet and needed to have a knife quick, ran to the hardware and ended up with the only choice they had, a Stanley and it is worthless. I am so pleased to see that Amazon carries the Alltrade knife. I am going to buy two so if I ever get in a bind again I won't have to settle for something less. I'm just a homeowner and not a professional but I'm hard on my utility knives. I drop 'em. I break 'em. I lose 'em. I jam 'em. This is the first one that takes it all and just keeps ticking.
As others have pointed out, the blade is either retracted or fully-extended - there are no partially-extracted positions. So if you want a knife where you can extend the blade just an eighth inch this is not the one for you. But the action on the dollar knives that can do an eighth inch cut usually gets stuck after about a week anyway.
But it is sturdy, has blade storage (contrary to another reviewer - you can see the blade storage door in the picture), changing blades is screwless and very easy, the hard rubber makes it easy to hold securely and comfortably, and the 6 included blades are very sharp.
To me the best thing is the action - snap it open, snap it closed, put it in your pocket safely and pull it out next time you need it. Someone commented on the "close button" being tough to operate - if you gently squeeze the "open" lever while pushing the "close" button it works very smoothly.
I just need to spray-paint it RED so I don't lose it!
