Tools and Hardware Reviews of American Innovative Teach Me Time Talking Alarm Clock and Nightlight

Customer Review: A good clock for kids learning to tell time
Summary: 5 Stars

I searched for a clock that had both a traditional clock-face (with hands) and a digital display to help teach my kids (5 and 7 years old) to tell time. This clock has been a great teaching tool. Not only can the kids read the digital display and then associate it with the hands, they can also push a button and the clock with tell them the time. This feature is especially useful for my 5 year old. The night-light feature (the whole unit glows) is an added feature. You can choose one of 3 colors for the night light and you can choose the intensity of the light. The alarm works well, although it is truly an alarm and was upsetting to my older child at first. But you can adjust the volume and the kids learned quickly how to silence the alarm by pushing one of the big buttons on the front of the clock. Overall, I think it's a great clock and I'm very pleased with it.

Customer Review: A great clock for a child
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this for my 6 year old for christmas. She wanted a clock just like her bigger siblings, and I wanted to get her something that not only told the time, but that was more geared towards here. I love that it has a dial as well as digital, and also speaks the time with a push of the button. One of the first questions she asked us was what AM and PM meant, because the clock tells her that too. I'm looking forward to trying the alarm feature next week when school starts back up. And the night light is a nice added feature too - and it's optional to turn on if it's too bright.

Customer Review: A great product
Summary: 5 Stars

This clock has helped my young children learn when it is okay to wake up in the morning. They are now staying in their beds until they see that the nightlight has changed from yellow to green.

Customer Review: A great teaching aid!
Summary: 5 Stars

We purchased the clock for our three-year-old granddaughter. It works exactly as advertised and she loves playing with it. In two days, she was starting to relate time to the clock dial display.

Customer Review: A lot of good features, missing some important ones.
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this clock for my two little girls, neither of whom can tell time. I have a mixed review.

I love the hidden controls, that's genius. I love the way the nightlight turns green at a preset time, that's also genius. The dual display is nice, and that you customize whether it displays digital or analog, or both, is nifty. (I'm not sure if it's that important, but it's nifty.) It's really nice that it will tell my kids the time, verbally, at the touch of a button.

And now, a little about the features -- or lack thereof -- that I'm not crazy about.

In my perfect clocky world, this clock would allow you to still flip the nightlight on and off with the left toe button, EVEN when the nightlight timer is set. Why would that be hard to do? Whether it's on or off, the timer could still either turn it on, leave it on, or turn it green when the preset time arrives.

Also, in my perfect clocky world, you would be able to turn off the backlight. Prior to owning this clock, we did not use nightlights, at all. (Studies are coming out with evidence that it's a pretty good idea to get a good chunk of time at night in the darkest possible conditions, for both a properly functioning biological clock, and for preservation of eyesight.) Now, this clock, even with the nightlight turned off, is very bright. Bright enough to function as a nightlight, which I don't want. If I could turn off the lighting completely, and still have the green light come on at 7am, I would be overjoyed. But the only way to turn off the backlight is by unplugging it and running it on the battery, which will not allow the nightlight/green light timer to function at all. So it's an either/or. If I unplug it, then my kids get a nice dark sleeping space (which they LIKE), but then, the whole point of this clock for me -- the green light function -- is shot.

I'm not sure we'll keep it yet, because for the price, I think it should be a little more flexible. But it's a great idea and I have hope that with some tweaking it will evolve into a totally awesome timepiece.
