Tools and Hardware Reviews of BRK Brands 9120B Hardwire Smoke Alarm with Battery BackupCustomer Review: Say goodbye to sleep Summary: 1 StarsI just got done ripping these things out of my ceiling. That is the last night I will spend with these things going off for 2-3 beeps once or more in the middle of the night. I called BRK and asked them about it and they just said to replace all the batteries and vacuum them out. I did that and it made absolutely no difference. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why they go off. I have also had them go off for a solid block of 5 to 10 minutes at 4am. At that time, they did not behave as they were supposed to with the red LED according to the manual either. I checked the Better Business Bureau site and BRK has an unsatisfactory record with them as well. When I inquired with BRK customer service about the behavior, all they would say is they have been in business a long time. Evidently that means the products don't have to actually work to sell now. So I am incredibly disappointed with the item and the service backing them up. As a side note, when I was discussing the middle of the night problems with a neighbor, he said he had the same problems with his until he switched them all out.
Customer Review: Poor make Summary: 1 StarsI agree with many of the other reviews. Our builder installed the older model 4120. Just about everything about this design is lousy. The battery compartment does not hold the snugly so that you have to try closing the door several times before it fits. When the battery drops a little lower within the compartment, you can't open the door. When inserting a new battery, you need very good light to see the polarity sign which is all the way in the back and hard to read. Of the 9 units installed, we have had 2 malfunction within 5 years. And of course, this is always at 3 am which just makes it a terrible experience. Save your money and don't buy this brand.
Customer Review: upsetting that TR HUGHES would use such defective equipment Summary: 1 StarsWe bought a new TR HUGHES home about 2 years ago and the BRK FIRST ALERT ALARMS ARE THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE. We are now having continuing problems with middle of night beeping for these VERY VERY DEFECTIVE ALARMS WHICH IS THE 91208. We have replaced batteries and put the back only to have them go off again and again. DO NOT BUY FIRST ALERT 912-8 AGAIN I REPEAT DO NOT BUY FIRST ALERT 91208
Customer Review: Smke Alarm Summary: 3 StarsI needed a replacement for our home. I went to the BRK site to find the proper replacement. Easy to install, directions for installing were very clear. Everything needed was contained in the box.
Customer Review: Easy installation Summary: 4 StarsI replaced all 9 smoke alarms in my house with the BRK2190B in about 20 minutes. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that the old ones were BRK (about 8 years old) that were starting to give false alarms (naturally at 2 or 3 in the morning). I have had them for a couple of weeks with no issues. The old ones did not indicate which unit had failed and was hard to trouble shoot). I had removed four of the 9 in the last year. All 9 of the new ones worked, and I had no issues. Only time will tell if I made the correct choice, but at least the BRK2190B will show me which unit caused the alarm. I have talked with other people with other alarms, and they all seem to have false alarms, so I am hoping the new ones work better. I admit I have not maintained them according to the manufacturer instructions, but who cleans them every month and test them every week.
