Tools and Hardware Reviews of BRK Brands 9120B Hardwired Smoke Alarm with Battery Backup, Single Individual from Contractor PackCustomer Review: Absolutely Horrible! Summary: 1 Stars
These alarms go off randomly in the middle of the night. Not a chirp, but full fire alarm. All of them in the house go off since they are connected. Why do they only go off between midnight and 3:00am? Brk says power fluctuation, dust, Spiders. These are crap. After 2 years of waking up randomly in the middle of night with crying kids, I am going to replace them all with another brand. Do not purchase these.
Customer Review: Absolutely terrible excuse for a safety product Summary: 1 Stars
The 9120B does not work properly. I have a dozen of these junk units installed in new construction by our builder. As mentioned in other reviews, it gives repeated false alarms in the wee hours of the night, presumably--according to the manufacturer--due to AC power fluxuations. The battery compartment is extremely difficult to fit a battery into and this thing goes through batteries like a cheap toy. The manual in incorrect regarding LED and beep codes. I am mad; the time is currently 4:23AM and I cannot get back to sleep from another random, middle of the night BRK false alarm. There is a ladder (just in case it goes off yet again) in my bedroom and a pile of brand new batteries on my dresser that this junk unit did not like. Ask yourself this: Why should a power fluxuation make it go off? Isn't that precisely why the battery is there? That is why they call it battery backup. We need to put the whole lot of these on a boat back to China!
Customer Review: Added to existing system Summary: 5 Stars
Bought these as adders to my existing system because the original model has been obsoleted by BRK. Finished basement and then added four new detectors to system. All tested good and function in concert with existing detectors. No problems what so ever with chirping in the middle of the night or otherwise as discussed by other reviews.
Customer Review: Alarm! Summary: 5 Stars
The BRK smoke alarms used the same wiring as the ones they replaced, so they were easy to connect. And they were easy to attach to the mounting of the former alarms. I'm very satisfied with them.
Customer Review: An alternative replacement for this smoke alarm Summary: 2 Stars
I took the advice of another reviewer and replaced all of my existing BRK 910B smoke alarms with Kidde-Hardwire Replacement-Model # i2060 (P/N 21007397) smoke alarms. I purchased these from Home Depot for $15.97 each. These alarms comes with adapters for BRK hardwired smoke alarm, that can be quickly connected to the existing BRK hardwired connector in your ceiling or wall. These alarms needs to be replace every 10 years instead of 5 years and they come with a front battery door with a hush button. We replaced all of ours last week and haven't heard a beep from any of them yet! A great replacement alarm that you can purchase from your local Home Depot or online. Thanks to the 3/16/09 reviewer for this advice.
