Tools and Hardware Reviews of BRK Brands 9120B Hardwired Smoke Alarm with Battery Backup, Single Individual from Contractor PackCustomer Review: Another alarm clock Summary: 1 Stars
Our electrical contractor installed about six of these in the house and they all beep at random intervals. I tested the batteries and they are all strong. I now have to look into replacing these at my expense. First Alert should be ashamed.
Customer Review: Another voice in the chorus Summary: 1 Stars
I have the misfortune of having recently moved into a new home with one of these smoke detectors. I agree with many of the reviewers here, and am writing this review just to add my voice to the chorus. Attention potential buyers: This thing is far worse than useless. Random intermittent ear-piercing bleeps, unintelligible documentation, shoddy worksmanship ... it's making my life a living hell. I replaced the battery and cleaned the unit with compressed air a month or so ago and it was quiet for a bit, and now it's starting to go off in the middle of the night (and at other random times) again; worse, since all the smoke detectors are interconnected, when this one goes off they all go off.
It's a horrible piece of junk. Steer clear.
Customer Review: Avoid this product Summary: 1 Stars
I have also been experiencing random loud chirps from my hard-wired smoke alarms over the course of several months (yes, usually occurring in the middle of the night). Did everything customer service said to do i.e. remove battery, hold down button, make sure nothing else shares the circuit. Finally was smart enough to toss them in the garbage and replace them with Kidde alarms (model i4618). Nice product. The wires even come pre-stripped for easy installation. Everyone in the house has slept soundly ever since.
Customer Review: Awful alarm system Summary: 1 Stars
I am now up at 3:30 a.m. with my husband as we are disabling the 4th one of these that has gone off, chirping about once every minute. They typically all decide to go off in the middle of the night, waking us up. He climbs up on a ladder and tries to vacuum it out. It still chirps. He puts in a new battery, which according to instructions inside the alarm itself, is the reason for the chirping. It still chirps. At this point, you are screaming every expletive that comes to mind that early in the morning. You then take out the battery and unplug it because that is the only way to make it stop beeping. Yes, this means you have a smoke detector that no longer works. The other review that says this is a defective product is exactly right. Save yourself some money and a great deal of frustration and buy another brand. If representatives of the manufacturers read these reviews and do not fix the problem, they will be liable for punitive damages when homeowners who have disabled these smoke detectors die in a fire.
Customer Review: Awful product Summary: 1 Stars
This is the very worst smoke detector system that I have ever had.
It will become so obnoxious with its unexplainable random chirping that you will eventually consider disconnecting the darn thing.
Some protection device.
By something else with better reviews.
