We have used this product for several years on our very steep blacktop driveway. If applied several hours prior to a snowfall, it will melt approximately the first half inch of snow. However, it prevents the snow from sticking to the driveway, which makes for easier shoveling. Since it is bio-based, it is harmless to grass (and unfortunately weeds). Two negatives to the product is that its effectiveness diminishes with a rain/snow mix event. Also, we use a hand sprayer, which doesn't do a good job of an evenly applying the solution. Maybe a power sprayer is better for applying the solution.
Description of Bare Ground Solutions BGS-1 Liquid Snow & Ice Melt Gallon Solution
Stop damaging ice and snow build-up before it forms with the professional's choice for prevenative snow maintenance. Bare Ground anti-icing/de-ice solution will stop the accumulation of up to 3" of snow. Bare Ground has been extensively tested and used by the Department of Transportation and Public Works in many snow states throughout the country. Apply as an anti-snow solution before snow falls to stop the accumulation of snow or ice. Bare Ground coats the surface to prevent snow and ice from adhearing, working from the bottom up and has a 10 to 14 day anti-bonding residual reactivation effect. A single spray lasts up to 2 weeks, and has 8 times the coverage of salts. Environmentally safe and biodegradable, harmless to pets and livestock and safe for roofs and leaves, one gallon is equivalent to 50 pounds of salts or pellets. One gallon covers approx 1100 sq feet.
