Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bench Dog 40-001 ProTop Contractor Benchtop Router TableCustomer Review: ProTop is the tops Summary: 5 StarsOnce assembled (allow 90 min - 2 hours to assemble) it's rock solid in all aspects. Nothing cheap about it. The materials used are good. Tolerances are good. Zero movement and vibration. Built in tracks are very helpful, as I've since purchased accessories such as the Bench Dog feather boards and Bench Dog panel holder. Even the shippping packaging of this relatively heavy kit was well thought out. A router table - but this one in particular - has long been on my wish list, and I'm in no way disappointed. I was quick on my way to making 5 chairs, two side tables, and am on my way to some raised-panel kitchen cabinets.
Customer Review: Quality router table Summary: 4 StarsI decided to purchase the Bench Dog to replace my stamped metal router table. Everything fit together well and the table works great. My only concern is with the plastic router mounting plate. There are numerous "pre-drilled" and countersunk holes in the plate for some of the different routers that can be installed. However, I wanted to install a router (Milwaukee 3 1/2 HP) that didn't have the "pre-drilled" holes. So using the supplied template I made my own holes in the plate. Some of the countersinks that I drilled overlapped some of the existing holes. I don't like all the extra unused holes in the router plate because I feel that it weakens it. I guess I would feel better if I could have used some of the existing holes because it is a lot of extra work to make your own. Also, I still need to drill one more hole for the top adjusting T-wrench. It would be nice if you could purchase a plate from Bench Dog with only mounting holes to fit the router you want to install.
Customer Review: Quality sometimes cost a little more. Summary: 5 StarsI was looking to get a router and table to basically make frames for my photographs (some to keep/some to sell). Some of my pictures are 30"x40" and the price for frames at the local frame or hobby store for this size are outrageous. I went to the local mega-hardware store and priced 1x2 oak and figured I could make my own frames for at least 75% less than purchasing them premade.
I could have settled for a "decent" table for about $100 but after reading all the reviews for this table and getting a discount from Amazon, I ended up plunging in but paying less than $200. That's quite a bit more than $100 but the money I will save making my own frames will make up for it and a lot more.
It took me about an hour and a half to put the table together and its obvious that this its of high quality. I've attached my new router (Hitachi M12VC) to it and practiced making some "frames" and I am so glad I spent the extra money.
Customer Review: Outstanding Product - Shame on you Amazon Summary: 5 StarsI recently purchased my Bench Dog 40-001 Pro Top Contractor Benchtop Router Table. It lives up to all the 40+ other reviews. Excellent piece of equipment. I have nothing but good to say about this router table. I did a lot of research before ordering the Bench Dog. The other reveiws speak for themselves.
Shame on you amazon for dropping your free shipping. When the holidays were over you all-of-a-sudden started charging to ship everything. I ended up purchasing my Bench Dog 40-001 from Tyler Tool who always has FREE shipping on all orders over $99. Their prices are the same as Amazon, their serivce is excellent, and theif shipping is FREE.
Customer Review: Perfection prevented by finish issues and lack of customer service Summary: 4 StarsAfter reading the reviews on this table, I immediately ordered it. This is my first Bench Dog product. After assembling the table, it is obvious that this is a quality product, and the fence is especially nice. The package arrived in perfect condition, and was not damaged in transit. However, I am disappointed with the condition of the wood panels as shipped. The left side panel has a large gash in it, and it was circled with a black Sharpie (which it seems should have prevented it from being included in the package). I immediately called Bench Dog, but it was a half hour past their business hours, so I left a detailed message with their customer service department. They did not return my call. I did not follow up because I did not want to wait to see if they would ship a new panel (but a call back would have gone a long way toward securing me as a long-term customer). I filled the gash and modified their decal to cover the damage. But there are also dents on the other panels. These are purely aesthetic issues, but I use my tools in my garage, and I figure that after paying over $200, the table should be in good shape. But the important parts (the Pro Top and fence) is perfect and very high quality. I do wish they would include a miter gauge. I gave this product a 4 because 3 is too low.
