Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bird-X YG Yard Gard Ultrasonic Animal Repeller

Customer Review: Didn't Work-Really Need Inconsiderate Neighbor Repeller
Summary: 1 Stars

The below is my experience with one unit. As of the date of writing this I have not tried a second unit. I may have gotten a bad one ... it seems that at least 20% of the reviewers have while others are happy with the results.

Focus Question: What is the best way to stop neighbors from walking their dog on our lawn?

[...]

Conclusion: My unit does not work. Bird-X YG Yard Gard Ultrasonic Animal Repeller

Fact Summary:
Dogs walk happily by it with tail wagging. Neighbors think they have a right to walk the dog on our lawn and by our mailbox ... allowing the voiding of both urine and poop. I am extremely allergic to dogs and my grass dies from urine, and my newspapers are thrown on the grass that "neighbors ??" think they have a right to use (i.e.; yes some when confronted argue this) ... with no answer as to "Why are you not doing this at your house?"

Texas has a "Criminal Property Damage law" that seems to cover the destruction of grass by dogs urine. I was hoping to avoid using it or taking them to "small claims court" with this product. But, after testing in continuous mode: (1) it did not bother our cat at all and (2) set at the highest level (i.e., all creatures under that level were suppose to be affected) ... dogs walked by it with their tail wagging ... and the neighbors continue to use the lawn.

I may have gotten a bad unit ... and I am considering trying another copy. I will update this review if I have more positive outcome.

Customer Review: Didn't work for armadillos
Summary: 1 Stars

Tried two of these in an attempt to repel armadillos. Mounted at the animal's height, unobstructed, used various frequencies, etc., but the armadillos still walked right by them, digging up my mulch and grass directly in front of each of them.

Customer Review: Do not waste your money
Summary: 1 Stars

We purchased two Yard Gards last summer to keep animals away from our shrubs and flowers. It is a cheaply made gadget. Opening and closing plastic cover is a problem, as it gets stuck, and then it refuses to snap back into place, and you need to get it off the mount each time you need to replace batteries.
I can't tell if it helped in summer, as I use other animal repellents as well. The main reason we bought it, is for the winter, when hungry deer come to munch on our rhododendrons. Guess what- the minute temperature went below freezing, the gadgets started screaming non-stop without being triggered by a moving subject. There is nothing in product specifications indicating it is not for winter use.
We had to take them down as this permanent noise was very bothersome for us and our neighbors. And we are on large one acre lots, far from each other.

Customer Review: Does not scare of birds or other creatures, IE racoons and squirrels
Summary: 1 Stars

Product did nothing but annoy my guests and nothing for the uninvited guests of my yard. Had coons killing my KOI pond fish, used right next to pond, no effect on anything.

Customer Review: Doesn't Do the Job on Rabbits
Summary: 2 Stars

I had high hopes for this device after reading a bunch of positive reviews, however I'm sad to say it didn't rid us of our rabbit problem in our back yard. Sometimes the rabbits sit within five feet of this thing with no apparent ill effects. I think it may work on other critters, but at least in our case, not on rabbits.
