Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bissell Steam Mop Hard-Floor Cleaner, Green Tea, 1867-7

Customer Review: 40 years of floor cleaning, and now Steam!!
Summary: 5 Stars

OK, I am a 60+ Grandma! I have been obsessed with clean floors thru 40 years of marriage and two kids, three grandkids, and innumerable dogs!! I have no back left after all the mopping and scubbing all those years. I finally tried the Steam Mop after my daughter raved about it, but I was leary. Well, I am finally off my knees, have thrown my dirty wet mop (and swiffers) away and even sent my electric floor cleaner to the Goodwill. This is a wonderful invention. You should feel the squeaky, clean under your bare feet when you are done. This requires no more "mopping" than a floor mop, but glides over the floor with no effort, very light-weight (ask my back) and quiet, heats up quickly, and cleans and sanitizes. The dirty cover goes in the washer and comes out like new. It actually made me want more hard floors insead of carpet to clean! The only cons, which are insignificant compared to old mopping woes, is that you will need to run a paper towel along the joint between the wall and the floor once in awhile (which I can do with my toes, standing up!) and sometimes water marks will show up if you steam too aggressively in one place (again, a paper towel with your toes dries it up).
Young homemakers, take if from Mom (Grandma) this is a great invention. I might look ten years younger if I'd had this when I was your age!!

Customer Review: A Great Product
Summary: 5 Stars

I was so sick of Wet Jets and mop heads and the cost and mess. Then I bought the bissel steam mop. It is a dream to clean with and so easy to use. Fill the water tank, wait for the red light, and clean away. Clean up? Just remove the mop head and throw it in the washer and empty the water tank if any clean water is left. That's it and my floors shine and I know they are sanitized by the hot steam. I love it!!!

Customer Review: A Great Solultion
Summary: 4 Stars

I researched floor steamers on this website and found that the majority of reviewers are right on. This is a great solution to getting down on your hands and knees if that is no longer an option. Easy to use, not too heavy, great at handling those sticky spots, fits under cabinets and leaves your floor clean (unlike sponge mops.) I highly recommend this product. In fact, I'm buying one for my mother who has decided that at 80, it's time to get up off the floor. Yes, the chord is a little too short but an extension chord solves that problem.

Customer Review: A Handy Item to Own
Summary: 5 Stars

Received my steam mop a few days ago, and couldn't wait to try it out. Easy to assemble (only two screws). Watch out for the rolled up cardboard stuck in the bottom of the handle, though!!! Not sure why they put it there, but it was a stupid idea. Mine came with two mop pads (one already on the steam mop). Now for the review:

(1) Initial start-up time is a little longer than I expected, but the second use was much, much faster. You'll know it isn't ready when it makes noises while you squeeze the trigger.

(2) I have a large eat-in kitchen with vinyl flooring. The flooring never had a high gloss finish - even brand new, so dirt is always captured in the texture of it. Always a pain to clean, no matter what I use. The Bissell steam mop did a really good job, though. I cleaned the large kitchen and adjoining utility room with it, and the mop was pretty darned dirty. I grabbed a wet paper towel and scrubbed the floor to see if it was clean, and there was still a little dirt (I live in the country and we have red clay here, so it's not hard to miss it). I cleaned the floor a second time with the steam mop and a clean pad, and it was much better. I had no idea just how dirty the floor was until I used this thing. I might just do it a third time!!!! It looked and felt A LOT better after the first cleaning, though. I could've stopped there and not known there was still red dirt residue on my floor!

(3) Sanitizing the floor, using their recommendation of 15 seconds, probably isn't even necessary. The steam warms the floor up pretty well during normal usage. I mean, WHO actually sanitizes the floor? If you want it THAT clean, I'd use bleach water after steam cleaning, anyway. However, holding the mop on a spot with dried goo, gunk, or a stain is a great idea. That DOES work well.

(4) The ergonomics of the mop are fine. The handle is going to work for almost anyone of average or tall height. YOU DO have to angle the handle down toward the floor a little to avoid the "drag" of the cloth against the floor (which is minimized with more steam). Use it like a vacuum and it's just right. The swivel head works great... can get in or under just about anywhere. And, the cloth mop pad at the edges will help you get into corners and along baseboards (although that's not going to be as effective as doing it by hand).

(5) Water tank can be just a bit tricky to get back on the first time you use it, but once you figure out that the little grooves in the side of the water tank have to slide over the guides, it will be fine. My water tank had a very small leak the first time I used it, but it didn't seem to do that the second time. Maybe the rubber gasket has to get broken in?

I think this item is a definite KEEPER. I'm glad to have it... no more sticky chemical residue on the floor. No waiting forever for the floor to dry. No more dirty mops in the closet. NO dragging around a bucket of yucky water. I'm free.

Customer Review: A Healthier Way to Clean
Summary: 4 Stars

I received this as a gift, after struggling to keep up with cleaning the wood and travertine floors in my new home. I have tried, and been disappointed in, cheaper options like cloth, sponge, and micro-fiber push mops, and had resorted to hand-scrubbing the tile and just ignoring the wood floors. What a wonderful, time-saving appliance the Bissell has turned out to be!

Pros:
1) No chemicals necessary. With all the press lately about the horrible things in household cleaners, this was a BIG win for me.
2) It sanitizes. If you let the steam linger over one spot for 10-15-seconds, it actually sanitizes the area. This is fantastic for bathroom floors, especially. I have even used it on the floor of our shower!
3) Gets up the dried-on gunk. I am a messy cook and have two toddlers, and I used to spent way too much time scraping up dried food off the tile. It still takes a little time for the steam to work on it, but it certainly saves my back and my knees a lot of wear and tear!
4) Very easy to "load" and put up. This is a big deal to me...I don't have the patience to mess with any complicated prep or take down. Just fill up the water reservoir, slip on a mop head, plug it in, and GO. When done, unplug, remove mop head (and throw in laundry), empty any water from the reservoir, and DONE.

Cons:
1) It is a bit heavy. The pivot head is nice, and allows for easy maneuvering around the floor, but it really can get heavy. If you are considering this as a gift for an older person who may be a little frail, this is probably not the right appliance.
2) Not great on grout. Must echo other reviewers' comments.
3) There is no real "scrubbing" head. I wish that, in addition to the cloth mop head, there was some sort of scrubbing attachment. This might help with the grout issue.

Overall, I would recommend in a heartbeat to friends and family who want to save time and reduce the use of chemicals in their households!
