Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker 133-pc. 18V Home Project KitCustomer Review: If your smart, You'll save your money Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this toolkit thinking hey its everything i need, cause i just moved to kansas and sold all my toos back in california. i was wrong, it does have everything on would need for a "starter" or "new home owner" kit, but the quality isnt all there. i will just give you a rundown of the kit and how everything is/performs/expectations.
Now i don't know if i got a bad one or what but the drill is worthless, it cant drive and inch and a half screw completely more than once and it cant power a hole saw through a half-inch of plywood on less than two or three charges. so i don't know if i got a bad one or what but its no good, and i thought my fathers $30 Makita form harbor freight was bad.... the hand tools may say chrome vandium, but they are sadly drop forged. they will get a job done but they will not last very long or do many strenuous jobs just as the drill/screw bits for the power drill and the hand drill, they will do simple things such as put a small screw threw drywall but not through a stud so well. they will work but not for anything serious. the sockets seem good for building a bed set but not engine. i used it for putting together a personal gym and it held up ok,even though i had to borrow my buddies drill cause i would have spent more time waiting for it to charge rather than setting it up. the drills are average, they will put a hole through a board, but they will loose their 'edge' faster than others. the hammer is only 8 oz, and not the best but would be ok if your just putting some nails that are coming out back in place. the pliers seem like the toughest thing in the tool kit even though if put to a tough job the teeth will strip just like any other cheap set. the stud sensor does work but not all the time, if you slide it from one way and it catches it chances are if you slide it from the other direction it wont. the ratchet i cant say anything about because my bearings and everything fell apart after i switched the gear over, so i think i got a bad one, but im not worried about it i never use it anyway. the tape measure is your standard old ten foot tape measure. the level look and feels like a 50 cent level but it does its job. i dont trust the razor blade or enclosure at all because it feels just that cheap, the blade feels liek it will snap it your hand slips sideways with the blade on a surface and it feels as though the enclosure is going to break if you put to much pressure on it on grip it to tight, i also have never trusted the locking mechanism on this kind either.
thats everything but there is one thing that confuses me about this kit, there is a six inch, 15 centimeter ruler in the kit, why do you have that in there if you have a ten foot measuring tape? the only thing i guess is a straight edge.
My verdict is that you save up another fifty dollars then go to lowes or home depot and buy your own choice set of kobalts or huskies, it will only be about 50 dollars more you can get what you will actually use more and stronger tools (plus husky has a lifetime guarantee) i mean for 86 dollars i got 5 pc plier set a 53 pc screwdriver set pry bar, hammer, nice toolbelt, corner angle, measuring tape, lockback razorblade knife, 16 pc hex keys. so if you take a little extra cash you can get everything you want and need (minus a good cordless drill) that is better, will last longer, and give you the knowledge you made a better investment.
UPDATE!!!!! I was charging the drill the other day and forgot about it when i left. i came back about six hours later and saw my drill sitting there still charging and thought, great now its dead for sure cause i over charged it, so i took it off and tryied it and it worked and it felt stronger than usual, this time i got it to drive atleast 20 screws with ease and then some and i was finally abloe to bore that hole i needed with it and it was still going. so it isn't all bad but its no dewalt. so yo just have to let it charge for upwards of six hours, i guess i just got to used to rapidmax chargers and such.
