Fast exelent service; mower has more than adequet power; long charge cycle; is a little heavier than expected but still a very good choice
Customer Review: 24V B & D Cordless Lawn Mower Summary: 5 Stars
For small yards, the Black & Decker 24V (recently improved) lawn mower is the ideal mower. No gas or oil to mix or burn or smell.
Customer Review: 5 years and still going Summary: 4 Stars
I have had this lawn mower for about 4 to 5 years. I am very pleased. I have not had to replace the battery in that time, although today, I didn't get as much lawn done as usual, and this may be the year to replace the battery. Not bad at all. Neighbors tell me the lawn mower is very quiet. I love how easy it is to start and no gas fumes. If you have read other reviews you will know that yep, it's heavy pushing up a hill. In the years I have had it, it's been great. I recommend it.
Customer Review: 8+ years and still running strong Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this mower in the spring of 2000. It gets used weekly except when the lawn is dormant. And not just to mow, I also use it as a 'vacum' to pick up and mulch the fall leaves in our yard. Thing runs like a champ. The bag is starting to show its age and it doesn't run as long between charges any more, but I'll (or I should say my 12-yo son) will get another spring, summer and fall out of it before retiring and buying another.
Considering the alternatives (i.e. fighting with a gas mower or tripping over cords), this is a no-brainer.
Customer Review: A Novice's Lawn Mowing Experience Summary: 3 Stars
I have owned the Black & Decker CMM1200 19-inch 24 Volt Cordless Mulching Lawn Mower for about 14 months (purchased May 3, 2008). My overall rating for this lawnmower is three (out of five) stars. Following is my evaluation based on the following specific parameters: ease-of-use, functionality, reliability, and maintenance service.
1) Ease-of-Use (Rating: Excellent - 5 Stars): This lawn mower is very easy to operate. All you need to do is to insert and rotate the safety key 90 degrees to enable the lawn mower. Then you pull the operator lever to operate the lawn mower. Before buying this lawn mower I had never owned or even operated a lawn mower, but I was comfortable operating this lawn mower almost immediately---it felt `intuitive'.
2) Functionality (Rating: Very Good - 4 Stars): In general, the lawn mower does a fairly neat job as long as the user strictly adheres to the instructions in the manual. Specifically, (1) You should never attempt to mow a wet lawn because the lawn mower will automatically shut off. (2) If the grass is tall, it is important that you raise the cutting height of the lawn mower to the proper level; otherwise, the lawn mower will automatically shut off.
3) Reliability (Rating: Good - 3 Stars) - While operating the lawn mower under normal conditions the `operator lever' snapped off rendering the lawn mower inoperable. Needless-to-say, I was shocked and disappointed since the lawn mower had been otherwise reliable during the 14 months of ownership.
4) Maintenance Service (Rating: Poor - 1 Star) - So far the `jury is out' as to the availability and quality of maintenance service; and I still question whether my warranty will eventually be honored. In an effort to have my `operator lever' repaired I called the Black & Decker (B&D) central phone number (1-800-544-6986) and they identified a particular local shop (I won't give the shop's name here) as the `local B&D service center' for the geographical area in which I live. I contacted the `local B&D service center' to arrange for the repair. I pointed out that `Black & Decker central' had recommended that I mail the lawn mower to the `local B&D service center', but before doing so I wanted the `local B&D service center's' concurrence regarding this procedure. I pointed out that, even though the `local B&D service center' is only about 12 miles from my home, I wouldn't be able to personally bring the lawn mower into the shop because I don't own a truck. Although the `local B&D service center' doesn't normally offer `pickup and delivery' service, the manager generously volunteered to stop by my home (he said he lives nearby) and pick up the lawn mower, which he did. Before loading the lawn mower onto his truck, the manager visually inspected it, indicated that it didn't appear to be a major repair, and estimated that the lawn mower would be ready within one business day. However, since that time I have not been able to reach the manager to find out the status of the repair (or to thank him for picking up the lawn mower). I'm wondering whether the repair has turned out to be more complicated than the manager had originally estimated. I'm also wondering whether there may be some problem honoring the warranty. In the interim I have contacted Black & Decker headquarters and asked them to help me find out the status of the repair; and I'm hopeful that this will have a positive result. In any case, because I'm not sure when/if my lawn mower will be repaired/returned, I have signed a contract with a professional lawn service to mow my lawn weekly for the remainder of the current season. As a result of this experience I have learned several lessons: (1) It helps to own a truck if you plan to transport your lawn mower to a service center since they may not offer `pickup and delivery' service. (2) It helps to keep the original packaging for the lifetime of the lawn mower in case you need to mail the lawn mower to a service center for repair. (3) If it turns out that obtaining maintenance service (or having the warranty honored) for this lawn mower is too difficult or inconvenient, then it may be more practical to replace the lawn mower whenever a `critical' component (such as the `operator lever') breaks [I sincerely hope that this is not the case]. (4) It also helps to have a `backup' lawn mower. I am hopeful that in the future I will be able to update this portion of my review with a more positive outcome and an improved rating.
