Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker CMM1200 19-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Mulching Lawn Mower

Customer Review: Absolutely TERRIBLE! STAY AWAY!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this mower in hopes to be able to mow my yard quick and easy. I knew battery technology was pretty terrible for something like this, but despite my doubts, I ordered it anyway. It was a terrible mistake.

Here's some facts:

You can get a dominate self-propelled gas mower that will start with one pull for HALF the price of this...but if that doesn't detour you, here's what happened to me.

I have a average fenced in back yard and a small front yard. I started the mower and started cutting. It was pretty obvious this thing wouldn't be able to do ANYTHING to long and or wet grass but I adjusted the mower up higher and it did a decent job at cutting.

However, when I got to my back yard, I noticed a solid power difference. Half way through it, the battery died. It will simply not do the job of a gas mower. Its just a piece of junk and its $400!

Donot buy this, under any circumstances.
It will not mow 1/3 of an acre and its just plain bad.

Listen to this review and goto Lowes and get a Toro mower for half the price.

Customer Review: Absolutely no maintenance in 2 years
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this mower 2 years ago and haven't spent a minute for maintenance.

Pros
1. 100% dependable. Just charge and mow.
2. Very quite compared to gas mower.
3. A little contribution to enviroment.

Cons
1. For a quarter acre lot I need atleast 3 charges for regular mowing, 4 for tall grass.

Customer Review: After 1 year of use
Summary: 4 Stars

Replaced my old toro (gas) propelled. Easy to assemble, a little heavier than I had hoped but easy to maneuver on my flat yard. Quiet and quick charge. Zero maintenance. Does it cut as well as a gas mower--not really but certainly adequate. Very wet season this year and had to cut long wet grass and unit did surprisingly well. Mulches ok but need to run two swipes for decent cut and mulch. Overall very pleased and would recommend as a reasonable replacement when you consider pros/cons of gas mower for city lots. Compromises to be sure but no regrets. The height adjustment method is very good. Bought at end of season for a great price through Amazon.

Customer Review: Almost Ideal Mower
Summary: 4 Stars

I picked this mower up after giving up on trying to manage my newly acquired lawn with a reel mower. I've been mowing weekly with it for about two months now, and will admit I'm quite pleased with its performance. If you're looking to get away from gas mowers, then this is definitely a piece of equipment to consider. Personally, I'm hoping that this will sell very well, and inspire more companies to further develop cordless electric mowers and iron out the few kinks and inconveniences this one currently has.

PROS
1. No gas, no oil, no trips for fuel, no exhaust to inhale along with the ever-present smog here in Dallas.
2. Cuts grass
3. Durable cutting components (during the first mow I hit a 1.5" copper pipe and everything still appears solid and unmarked.
4. Extremely easy to stop and start the engine when crossing over areas where you don't want the mower blades spinning.
5. Relatively quiet (but not quiet enough for night-mowing)
6. Easier to push than its weight would make you think.

CONS
1. Not good for huge yards (but great for typical urban/suburban lots).
2. Obsolete battery can't be changed by user (must be returned and replaced). Supposedly the battery should last quite awhile provided it's charge is maintained properly.
3. Requires the mower to be plugged in at all times to maintain battery charge (not doing so is stated to decrease battery life)--not exactly the best way to conserve energy--but I've heard the mower uses very little power in battery maintenance mode.
4. The pull bar you must hold to keep the mower on is only half the width of the handle and flimsy. I'm afraid it will break eventually--and it makes my hand cramp a bit.
5. Not self-propelled.
6. The key (that must be inserted for the mower to operate) should have some sort of point of attachment on the mower to prevent it from being lost.
7. It's only as green as the company who generates your electricity.

Customer Review: Almost Perfect
Summary: 5 Stars

The mower came fully assembled - I just charged it overnight, put the handle in place and adjusted the blade height with the easy to use 4-wheel adjustment lever. It was very simple and everything worked perfectly.
But it really is noticeably heavier than my old gas mower - so be careful if you have much slope - and you probably shouldn't do it if you are on a hill.
I have about 6,000 square feet of lawn and when the grass is dry it gives a great cut on one charge. But it has trouble with wet grass - especially long wet grass - it doesn't lift the grass enough to give an even cut plus it will leave clumps even if you are bagging - you will have to double cut the lawn. One day when the grass was wet/long and I had to double cut most of it, the battery was drained before I finished (but with a 30 minute refresher charge while I ate lunch it perked up enough to finish the lawn).
Beyond these issues, I am completely satisfied and definitely recommend the CMM1200.Black & Decker CMM1200 19-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Mulching Lawn Mower
