Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker CMM1200 19-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Mulching Lawn MowerCustomer Review: Bad experience Summary: 3 Stars
We ordered 2 of these, back to back. The first came with the handle bent, so that it would not slide up and down. The second came with an internal mechanism damaged so the deck did not go up and down. As these were new, I saw no reason to try to fix them, so sent them back. Both boxes (too flimsy for the product) had gashes and dents in them. Will I try again? It still had better reviews than the Homelite, so maybe.
Customer Review: Battery Operated Lawn Mower Summary: 5 Stars
This was a perfect purchase for our small yard. After our purchase, we read that this mower did not receive the highest marks as it is 'heavy'. It is heavy to pick up (unpack), but pushes easily. We like it and have replaced our gasoline powered mower.
Customer Review: Battery Smoke Summary: 1 Stars
UPDATE: I took the mower in to the local authorized repair center (DeWalt near PDX) and they completed my warranty repair within a day. They fixed a lot of stuff and replaced the charger too (recall item). I could not have been more pleased with the service. All free!
I took a chance on a cordless electric mower because I wanted to do the right thing for planet earth. I was skeptical so I went with the brand name I had good experiences using in the past - Black and Decker. Unfortunately, within the first year the mower died. I put in the cheap key, turned it, the battery smoked and made unsettling noises, and that was all she wrote. All told, I might have mowed with the thing a total of 15 times. I did see a recall for the CMM1000 model for the same exact problem but do not see that they are offering a recall for the CMM1200 model.
I'll call Black and Decker on Monday to see what can be done - if anything. $400 for 15 mows (very small lawn) seems unrealistic to me. I wonder, does Honda offer a cordless, electric mower?
Customer Review: Battery does not last, expensive to replace Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this lawn mower thinking that I would get at least 2 years from the battery, I unfortunately have got only 1. The battery is expensive to replace at $120, and is certainly not worth it. Not recommended.
Customer Review: Before you buy, how close is your service center? Summary: 3 Stars
The mower itself is fine, but when the battery dies (2-4 seasons based on most reviews here) you have to take it to a service center. I live in the 3rd largest city in the U.S. and I'm going to wind up using as much gas (and 1/2 a day) taking it in as I would have used powering a mower for that long. This is a pretty big flaw that you can't just take it to the Home Depot or whatever and get a new battery.
