Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker D5500 Digital Evolution 1500-Watt Steam Iron with Ceramic SoleplateCustomer Review: Best Iron I've Used Summary: 5 Stars
I don't usually write reviews, but this iron is so good, I wanted to actually take some time to review it. I bought this iron because of its ceramic baseplate, which won't rust, and its pretty good price, but it surprised me with how many other aspects of it are great. It heats up so fast - about a minute to its highest setting. It's very comfortable to use, comes with a custom funnel to put the water in the iron, and the steam function is great. I tried using the self-cleaning function, but I pressed the button and nothing happened, maybe I did something wrong, I didn't feel like reading the manual. Bottom line is it's a great iron that won't rust and stain your clothes, gets hot really fast, and is good enough that I find myself ironing more because I like it so much.

For great ironing ease and beautiful results, this iron is terrific!
Black & Decker has been a faithful manufacturer which we have been able to purchae products from for several years. This D 5500 iron is no exception, it performs very well and the price on Amazon was outstanding.
Customer Review: Black and Decker 5500 Summary: 4 Stars
I was very pleased with this iron. The product is great and performs as well or better than described. I use it daily and my only complaint is that I need to fill up the water reservoire more often than I would like.
Customer Review: Black and Decker iron - just OK Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased the Black and Decker iron about a month ago and have had several opportunities to use it. I like that it doesn't use a lot of water to make steam, nor generate a lot of heat over the ironing board. I don't like that if you don't know to turn on the steam button, you don't have steam. I don't like that the iron doesn't get as hot as I would like it. I don't like that the cord doesn't retract. My last iron cost about $150. I swore that after that iron broke in less than two years, I would never spend that much for an iron. When all is said and done, this Black and Decker is very close in quality to the more expensive iron, which means that both were just "ok".
Customer Review: Defective and unpredictable from day one, broken in one year Summary: 1 Stars
I thought I'd write a review since I am back at Amazon looking for a new clothing iron after my Black & Decker died this week. I had this item for just over a year and it was always an awful iron. For starters, it has a really awkward water spout that must be filled by means of a narrow plastic cup. If you lose the cup while you own the iron it will be nearly impossible to fill. Secondly, my iron started malfunctioning almost immediately. For the year that I had the iron, the digital display would fluctuate between heat settings on its own. Every time it would change settings, sometimes 7 times in a minute, you would hear a high-pitched beep, which as you can imagine went from funny to obnoxious really quickly. As if that wasn't enough, it was sometimes too hot or not hot enough at the highest setting, which lead to me burning a few things. Now, as another reviewer has also experienced, the display on the iron died and after that (within two days) the iron would no longer heat up. Just buy something else and save yourself the trouble.
