Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker D6000 All-Temp Steam Iron with Stainless-Steel Soleplate

Customer Review: Disappointed...
Summary: 2 Stars

I have always used Black and Decker irons. I admit I must be hard on irons as I go through them every couple of years. However, I purchased this iron at the end May and already there are problems. The first is that about two months ago the bottom portion of letters and numbers on the digital display began to no longer show. Second, the steam button is sticking when pressed. Also, I agree with another reviewer that the iron leaked when first filled with water. That seems to have subsided but the iron does on occasion sputter water from the sole plate. I agree with another reviewer that the D2030 is a better iron. I am disappointed - I bought the 6000 because of the 'All Temperature Steam'. This is the only iron I'm aware of that has an all temperature steam. I don't understand why that isn't available on more irons.

Customer Review: Don't read only negative reviews!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is first review i have ever written, and since i am addicted to online shopping, the fact that decided to write a review on this iron tell a lot! Let me start off by saying that i have read all reviews about this product on Amazon and Walmart.com as well. Thank god that for the first time ever i decided to go against the reviews and purchase something, because otherwise i would be missing out on a great iron. I might be one of the weird ones on this planet who actually enjoy ironing their laundry, and usually i never wait for my iron to break before i go out and purchase the new one. I had a 30 bucks iron from panasonic prior to one, but my hubby ironed his shirt on a wrong setting and burned it to the point where it became impossible to clean the plate. So i went on Walmart.com and decided to look for a new one, stumbling upon this identical iron, only more expensive and sporting bunch of negative reviews.I am more than happy with what i paid for it here on Amazon, and free shipping was a plus!
For all who are considering this iron but are indecisive thanks to people who simply ask for too much from an iron, let me tell you something: go ahead and purchase it! Who cares that LCD panel is not readable when ironing? You set your temperature before you start ironing anyway, and once it gets hot, you are standing there ironing the laundry, not staring at the magic blue LCD screen and wondering what it says.Water tank is about the same as on any other iron (and i had many), there is no secret angle that takes you 10 minutes to find, i just pour water straight from a kitchen faucet, no issues there. water tank is pretty big, i ironed 7 times before filling it again (my husband is a city bus driver and needs his white shirts ironed daily), steam is consistent and almost instantly on.
Iron takes less than 10 seconds to warm up, and if if you press steam button steam will start going in less than 5. You have an option of either dry or steam ironing, and LCD display is multi-lingual. This iron is a bit on a heavy side, but i think it helps with ironing, which is just flawless, and easy, no stubborn wrinkles here!
All in all, i am glad i listened to my hubby and went against bad reviews. I got "stuck" with a wonderful and whimsical iron (i say whimsical due to the amazing blue lighted LCD on it), which does amazing job ironing and steaming the laundry.
I am not sure what kind of iron buyers expect for their 40 bucks, but this one is definitely worth what i paid for it.

Customer Review: Excellent Selection
Summary: 5 Stars

I sew for a living and this iron is the best I have seen. One of my sewing students had the iron and I liked the way it worked and needed one myself. I ordered it and have not been sorry. It heats fast which is an advantage with the safety turn off. The steam is great and I hardly ever have to use the burst of steam. I would certainly recommend this iron.

Customer Review: FINALLY - A GREAT KEEPER !
Summary: 5 Stars

I just love this iron. The steam settings are perfect. The weight is great, even though some have complained about it being on the heavy side - stop being so lazy - pump them flabby biceps! This iron has cut down on my last minute rush to iron in the morning before work time at least by 2/3rds! And, it heats up fast! I do not have to keep ironing over the same area to get the wrinkles out! I will probably buy another one just to put it away. Once you find something really good, always buy 2! Or, at least share one with a friend. I had a Black & Decker before, it was good, but not as good as this one. I've tried out all different kinds of irons, mostly at hotels, to try to figure out which kind to buy. The heavier models tend to work better. This one is the best. I use the fill cup from my previous B&D iron to fill this one. And, I do use distilled water, as we are on a well system. No leaks, no fuss, no muss. Just an honest to goodness workhorse of an iron!

Customer Review: Good Design, Poor Quality
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this iron as a replacement for my D5500, which I finally dropped one too many times. I have never had a better iron at any price point than the D5500 - the ease of use, performance, and durability were great. That being said, I had high hopes for "upgrading" to the D6000.

The button placement is slightly different, but the actual design is quite easy to use. I don't find that I'm hitting buttons by accident at all, as some of the other reviews say. The cord design *seems* smart, and this iron is more stable when sitting upright than the D5500 (which hopefully means I won't be knocking it off the ironing board). The only design flaw I see is that it really is quite heavy for a contemporary iron. Not an issue for me since I'm usually only ironing one or two garments, but if you iron a number of items at a time or have low hand/wrist strength, I imagine it would be a major barrier.

The big problem isn't design but quality. I ignored the reviewers here who were said they got bad units, and that was a bad move on my part. Out of the box, it seemed to have a few white mineral deposits (I probably should have run a clean cycle first, but still). I was somewhat concerned that it didn't seem to get nearly as hot as the D5500 at the same setting (I'd estimate half as hot or less). But the last straw is that there appears to be an electrical flaw that makes it turn off (and on!) randomly. I have contacted the manufacturer as instructed. I'll change this review if my replacement unit is better, but right now I'm wishing I'd stuck with what I knew.

Update: I contacted the manufacturer as the instructions said, and after a week of emails back and forth they agreed to replace it under warranty (I've had it only a few days), but require me to ship to them at my expense, then a processing fee that amounts to over 20% of the unit's purchase price, and a matter of weeks to send out another unit, so I'm returning to Amazon for a refund. Very disappointing experience with the product and the manufacturer. Amazon and the seller were great!
