Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker EM100B Energy Saver Series Power MonitorCustomer Review: After a month Summary: 5 Stars
Ok, after a month of using this power monitor I can officially say "What a great idea". Monitoring your whole house for power usage really makes you aware of how you are using power. Even my wife has found herself going around turning off lights etc. Worst energy hogs in our house have been found to be our microwave oven (who knew), water heater, and of course air conditioning (necessary in SW Okla 110 degree heat) and the few remaining regular light bulbs. We are looking forward to having a more energy efficient household (and a cheaper elect. bill). Thanks Amazon for a nice buying expierience.
Customer Review: Awesome unit will pay for itself Summary: 5 Stars
I got this unit because my electric bill was in the 300$ range during winter.I needed a way to see the exact cost of running my heat, in my case it was $1.37 per hour. This let me see first hand how much money I could save by turning down the heat and turning off unnecessary devices.By the way my drier costs $.69 an hour.
The unit itself it easy for most people to setup. in my case it was hard because I had the meter with the led eye on top and the template guide included didn't match up to anything close to what I had,but after 30 minutes of "micro-adjusting" it got it lined up and it has been perfect ever-since.I recommend this unit to everyone because even if your not trying to save every penny, you will still benefit from knowing how much power/money each device is using. The only thing better would be if it could connect to your computer.

Customer Review: B & D EM100B Energy Saver Power Monitor Summary: 5 Stars
Saved me big money!!! Read the success story below. First the basics.
This device was simple to install, and works as described. The "monthly bill estimate" feature is quite accurate. Meter is about 40 feet from where I have the display monitor placed, and there is no problem with signal. Once or twice I have had to go out to meter and "reset" the transmitter by pressing the button. That is when we have had freezing rain and ice form on the meter and transmitter.
Now the big story. I have the monitor in the kitchen beside the outdoor thermometer display, so I get in the habit of checking the current rate of spend quite often. There is obviously a pattern. When winter came on, and we begin to have cold rainy weather, I saw the current rate of spend skyrocket. After investigation, it was determined that one of our heat pumps was not defrosting at all, and would freeze into a block of ice. This was caused by a manufacturing flaw, and some parts that had gone bad. I would not have noticed the problem until I received the next month's bill. I'm glad I got it fixed, because the bill estimate on the monitor was predicting our bill to be three times normal!!
Cool device that is simple to install and works as described.
Customer Review: B & D Energy Saver Series Power Monitor. Summary: 5 Stars
It took me about 2 hours of reading the instructions, getting the sensor over the right port on the meter and finally getting the transmitter to find the little monitor in the house. I had to call the electric company for my kiowatt/minute price, and then had to put it into the monitor. Since then it's worked perfectly. When I called the electric company for the price, they were very concerned that I was tampering with the meter so they sent someone out to check on it. We had a great time over a cup of coffee and the guy suggested I turn off the electric water heater in the adjacent apartment that was not in use and just let the one floor heater keep the thing from freezing. This saved me about a $100.00 on next month's bill! This month's savings should be about the same.
