Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker EM100B Energy Saver Series Power Monitor

Customer Review: Black & Decker 100B Energy Saver
Summary: 3 Stars

This following is in response to Charles Evans review of the Black & Decker 100B Energy Saver:
In AZ, the energy cost is $0.10 per 1000 watts used for an hour.
If on constantly for an hour, his air conditioning cost would be 30 cents and his kitchen lights would cost 2 cents. Mr Evans said that his air cost 0.20 cents. Dependent on tiering, his decimal point was too low by a factor of 100 to 150.

Several comments noted that length of use is a key factor in billing. This is "on the nose" correct.

I was looking forward to trying this product after reading other reviews. It was very easy to install, but it is difficult to "read"....The directions for actually being able to "monitor" your energy use is not clear and took a very long time to figure out. I would not recommend this product, unless they write the instructions for reading this thing a bit more clear.

Very good product. Works exactly as described. Lowered my electric bill by 1/2 the first month of using it and identifying appliances that were not energy efficient.

Customer Review: Black and decker does it again..

Black and Deckers Powercost Monitor..

So far im a fan of Black and Decker..quality products with great ratings..

I bought two of these, one for my house and one for my fathers.. Mine works great.
My fathers hooked it up and continues to have "ERROR" displayed on the lcd.. It has detected the remote outside but does not display the kwh usage.. I've used this to determine overall electricity consumption in the house. It works pretty well and accurate.. I tracked my usage from the meter and compared within a month and shows right to the kwh.

It has helpful instruction on how to mount and install. The price for kwh is a bit confusing but I got it as close as I could with my electricity provider.

In general with electronics..not every product will come out working perfect and Ive had a great ratio of things working so far when I purchased them so I'm not gripping to much about the ERROR that occured on the one. If you want to know how much you are using at a time overall for the whole house during your evening.. this is for you.

Altho one thing I would love to see in the future!
It would have got 5 stars if it had a data logging function and logged into a memory the usage ..every hour..or every 10 mins..something like that..download it to a pc and look at your usage that way for a day or month.. in excel..

Oh well..cant have everything..if anybody has anything or products they know like that ..with a lower price..let me know!

Thanks hope this helps!

Customer Review: CUT ELECTRIC BILL IN HALF... Just by using this to pay attention
Summary: 4 Stars

This product doesn't "Do" anything other than make you aware of how much electricity you are using. I just got my first electric bill after having the monitor plugged in and we used half the kW we used in the same month last year and my bill was a quarter of what it was last month. My kids love checking it too. My daughter looks at it every morning for the outdoor thermometer to see how warm she should dress. My only problem is that it does not work well in the rain if water gets between the meter and the sensor. I think I might try to make a little sheild of clear tape to try and fix this problem. Even with rain drop outs it gives you a much better idea of what your bill is going to be. We'll see how well it does through the winter. Follow the directions and make sure to use lithium batteries in the sensor unit.
