I live on five acres in a wooded area, and heat with wood. For years I have had to rely on others who are comfortable using standard chain saws to clear up the winter blow down and cut up firewood. Most branches less than 6 inches in diameter have gone to waste.
Now, with my alligator loppers, I can comfortably and safely turn branches and small trees into usable firewood. The loppers are easy to use and far, far safer than standard chain saws. I like being able to keep the grounds clean, make use of good wood that would otherwise be lost, and I especially like the increased independence this tool gives me!

These loppers are great for trimming trees. I opted for the less expensive corded loppers. I'm sure that the 18v version is more convenient, but I'm afraid that in a couple of years the batter will stop working. Anyways, I purchased this along with a pole saw and they make the perfect arsenal for attaching (trimming) the trees on our property.Customer Review: Alligator eats trees

I have tried buck saws and gas powered chain saws. The first is hard work (I'm 70+) and the second is fairly dangerous. This "Alligator" (its trade name) comes ready to go right out of the box. It is easy to pick up and position, and really simple to use. Just grab the handles, one hand each side (remember this was designed for safty). Then spread the "mouth" of the gator out, sqeeze the triggers (one for each hand) and gently close the mouth of the gator around the braanch you want to cut. It cuts up to 4" trees very smoothly with no effort on your part. When you squeeze the triggers the chain starts. It's not noisy but you know it's going. Cuts amazingly fast, whether a single limb or a group of small branches gathered within its jaws. Exceeds all expectations.
I was cautious based upon one review that showed the chainguard getting chewed up, but believe that was due to not keeping the chip chute clear - it's at the bottom when the bar is vertical, but I used it at all angles.
Also note the instructions to oil before using and to adjust chain every so often - very simple as it's very well designed.
