We bought this mower about two years ago. I was cutting our grass this evening when suddenly the mower quit. Smoke started billowing up from the motor housing. We have a small yard and hours of usage over the last couple of years has been minimal. I have regularly cleaned and maintained the mower. I thought it would be awhile before I would be shopping for another lawn mower. Guess not. I can tell you one thing. Cord is no problem easy to figure out a pattern follow instructions. The Cordless version more than twice the price(batteries also pollute) If you have the average Yard. You can't beat this mower. No need to put up with bother of gas mower. I got rid of mine forever. My neighbor is getting one. The MM275 is the best buy out of all the Black & Decker models. It mulches perfectly. The swat 18" is a bit smaller the the average 22" gas mower. But most us Americans need the extra walking. It's light easy to manuver and quiet. second best buy this year for me, first was XM satelite radio Roady. Happy Mowing

This lawn mower is everything it is advertised to be. Cuts my small 170 sq ft lawn perfectly, and mulches the grass nicely so there is no need for raking the grass after mowing. Easy to assembly and very easy to move around. I also liked the fact that the manual told you what setting to put the cutting height on for each types of grass. Electric cord was not a problem for me, never got in the way of mowing. I am very pleased with my purchase and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a lightweight electric mower.Customer Review: Excellent buy for small to medium lawns

I purchased this item from Amazon on sale for 139.99 (or thereabout) in September of 2002. My Dad had a B&D he bought back in the the 70's when I was a kid and we used for twenty years at least and that performance plus cost prompted me to do same. I have used this mower without issue until last month, The fan located above cutting blade lost one of its blades causing a major vibration. I found the part online from Web (less than 20 bucks). In less then 15 mins I replaced the fan (remove one nut, remover retainer, then blade and fan) sharpened the blade reassembled and was mowing. Mower ran like brand new.
Pros: It is light wight easy to push even on heavy slopes. Instant on and off for hydration breaks, moving from front to back etc. More than powerful enough for even tall grass (for when I got lazy and missed a weekend). Easy to clean. Easy to fix. Much more quit than gas mowers. No noxious smoke. No mixing oil and gas. No storing combustibles.
Cons: The cord does need some practice to be sure that when you mow, the cord always lays were you have completed. To be honest this did take me two seasons to get good at it and I did need to replace the cord once (my bad). Did I mention the cord.
Regardless of the cord I would purchase it again without question. And have recommended it to my friends and neighbors.

This mower is excellent for medium to light residential use. It has never bogged down under the conditions in which it is currently used: relatively tall cut (2 in.), old Bermuda/weed lawn (with occasional Fall leaves), 7,500 sq. ft. corner lot, front, side, and back yards, in Southern California climate. I don't envision that it fail under tougher conditions, though. The blade could retain it's edge longer to suit me, but to be fair I don't rake up the liquid amber seed pods before mowing. Height adjustment is super easy. Dealing with the cord takes practice and you won't win macho points with this unit, but it's quiet, clean, and you can feel great about making a small contribution to improved air quality.
