Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker MM275 18-Inch 9 amp Electric Mulching Mower

Customer Review: Not too much, not too little
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this mower based on reviews and used it for the first time a few days ago. In short, I am very satisfied.

Here is my experience: the mower was very easy to assemble; took less than fifteen minutes (which includes reading the manual). No tools required, but some ordinary pliers helped. Adjusting the blade height is effortless.

It's true what another reviewer said: it starts easier and faster than a car. I was off and mowing immediately. It's very lightweight and easy to push, turn and navigate.

The manual gives a good tip: drape the power cord in a pile, and plan your mowing to move further and further away from the pile. This helps prevent the "power cord dance". Using a cord will change your mowing style, but I found the adjustment easy.

I mowed tall, wet grass with no problem (maybe 4 inches tall still moist from a morning rain).

Another review mentions a pinching hazard. I discount this because you can only pinch yourself with your own strength; the machine cannot pinch you.

Overall, it has limitations, but basically the same limitations you'd expect with any lawn mower. Well worth the price. I'd buy it again.

Customer Review: Pass on this model. Get the MM875.
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased my first new home in April and guess what comes with a new home: a lawn. Even when I was a kid, I only mowed the lawn once, so the idea of mowing a lawn was completely new to me. The home builder did not take care of the lawn very well, so it was already somewhat yellow, but I let it grow for probably about a month. I bought this mower from Sears and loved it since it was small and easy to assemble. The first time I used it, it was easy to use, but didn't do the job. It mowed straight through, BUT the mulching ability of this mower is subpar to say the best. It basically cuts the grass and leaves it there. It does not mulch. I even got the side bagger, which I wouldn't recommend either as it barely collects ANY grass. After two back and forth cuts, it's already full. For my small front and back lawn, I had to empty the bagger 8 times. RIDICULOUS. Anyhow, I returned it to Sears and was glad to get it off my hands. Poorly functional product and for a few more dollars, you can get the MM875. Same brand, same concept, but performs 1000% better. I saw my neighbor using it and I saw how easy it was for him, so I picked one up. I used it for the first time yesterday and I cursed myself for not spending the extra money and saving the time and hassle. The ineffective MM275 also has caused my lawn to have some brown spots in the areas it left excess grass. Don't buy this product, buy the other B&D model. Again, the concept is good, but it's performance is very poor.

Customer Review: Powerful while also light weight
Summary: 4 Stars

I was trying to buy a higher model of Black&Decker elective mower. But found this one is much lighter. Consider the slight hill of my house, I decide to go this one. I find it is quite powerful and does all the work.

One drawback is the hole cover can never be installed. It really sucks, but seems not influencing the functionality.

Customer Review: Pretty darn good
Summary: 4 Stars

This lawnmower is exceptionally easy to use. Turning it on is just as simple as flipping any switch, and it doesn't take a lot of effort to push through the lawn. The first time I used it, my yard was overdue for a trim, and this mower handled the too-tall grass just fine. The assembly was simple. The instructions for one step used some unfamiliar jargon, but the step itself was intuitive enough, especially with the drawings included. Using the cord wasn't very hard to get used to, but you do have to account for it. One minor annoyance, is the cost of the extension cord you have to buy, if you don't already own it. Sure, you're not having to pay for gas for your mower, or deal with the inconvenience of retrieving the gas, running out unexpectedly. But the cord is not cheap, and you need to add that on to the total cost to get a more accurate figure of how much you're spending.
