After reading the listing and reviews, I expected a length in the range of 5 feet and that's what I got. With that in mind and my expectations in check....this is exactly what I needed to trim a huge hedge. The trimmer has many adjustments that will allow you to trim a hedge that is up to around 8 to 9 feet tall if you are around 6 feet tall. You may think this trimmer has a huge extension length but it does not. It has two sections that couple as one section and that is it. What it does have that is nice is a head that pivots in so many directions. This thing works and I am really pleased with my purchase. I am pleased with this product. It is well made and has performed flawlessly. It is a bit heavy, so if you are reaching way up or way out, you will need to rest your arms fairly frequently. But that beats getting a ladder, or not being able to do them at all. So in all, very happy with the purchase.Customer Review: Does what it's designed to do

I have a gas powered hedge trimmer (Mantis) that I use to do all of my heavy spring trimming. I use the Black & Decker cordless trimmer for light duty maintenance thruout the summer and so far, it has proved excellent. Don't expect to use this machine for heavy or sustained work. It performs well, but it is lite duty.
It weighs 8 lbs., but is a little awkward to use because most of the weight is at the trimming end. It will give you a workout if you use it for extended periods. The battery holds a good charge and you can expect the charge to last between 40-50 minutes which is more than adequate for most small jobs. If your work requires more time, I suggest a backup battery since the recharge time is several hours.

I bought this to trim pfitzers and cut tall wheat grasses, lespedeza and crown vetch (all tall ground covers growing to a height of 4 feet). It does each job quite well. My trimming projects don't last much longer than 10 or 15 minutes running time and the battery seems adequate for that.
My only complaint is that the unit is heavy and awkward to use. Of course, that is inevitable if you need the reach. I wish, though, that they would have designed it so it could be connected with or without the extension as needed. Nevertheless, the fact that the trimmer head swivels in relation to the handle makes it far more manageable than it would be otherwise. In short, I'm happy with my purchase.
