Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker NST2018 Grass Hog 12-Inch 18-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer with 2 Batteries

Customer Review: Another throw away tool after 2 seasons
Summary: 1 Stars

Just be aware that while this can do basic trimming, it will need to be repaired or replaced very quickly. The plastic is as cheap as it can get for a unit that needs to hold any weight at all. The battery is heavy, and if you dropped it from so much as four feet, I'm sure it would break. That being said, I took great care of mine. Today I plugged in the battery to find that the charger is broken. I went and bought a new charger and low and behold, the battery is dead. Cheap, cheap, cheap

Customer Review: Another winner - only better
Summary: 4 Stars

I reviewed the previous generation of this weed whacker, the one with the 12V lead-acid battery, and recommended it to any reader. This one's better.

For one thing, the battery seems to last longer. We have a postage-stamp urban lawn - using this as the lawnmower, we can cut nearly the whole thing on one battery. That's the least of it, though. My wife is a tall and strong woman, but with petite hands. The older model's battery release required a wide, strong grip for which Nature never equipped her. The smaller, lighter batteries and easier release make this feasible for her.

But, since the previous generation, B&D discovered not only female users, but interchangeable parts, as well. My cordless drill uses the same batteries and charger, so now I have two chargers and four batteries for this trimmer and for my drill.

I liked the old model. I like the new model much better. Ladies - if the older generation didn't meet the needs of your hands, you're in good company (or at least lots of company). Try the new one.

Customer Review: Assenbly required
Summary: 2 Stars

There is no mention of having to partialy assemble this item. The three scews that hold on the guard were very tight and took a lot of effort to put in correctly. The top handle was a mystery on how to put it on because there were no directions in the strange little owners manual that came with the item.

After I finally got it assembled and tried to use it the line wouldn't feed, great. It doesn't put you in a good mood when the first thing you have to do is unreel a spool and hope you can get it running. So far no luck.

Customer Review: At least as good as an electric trimmer
Summary: 5 Stars

After having a few gas trimmers which would get to be hard starting after a year or two and a host of the 120 volt AC trimmers with cords, I decided to try something new.

It works as well as the others even though it is battery powered. I can trim my whole yard in 20 minutes on just one battery with plenty of power left over.

It does not do as good a job of edging as a 4HP edger with a steel blade but it will work well for trimming between serious edging.

If I have one complaint it is that it is unclear how to treat the batteries. Do they stay in the charger forever? The charge light never goes out. How long should they charge at a time? There are no instructions for this.

Customer Review: Awesome Product
Summary: 5 Stars

The cordless batteries last about 30 minutes each, which is more than enough time to complete the work in the front & back yards of a medium sized single-family property. It works as good or better as any electric model and actually has enough power to tackle some projects I previously thought a gas-powered model could only handle.
