I bought this item, along with the extender handle, as part of my "going green" approach to lawn care. I bought a manual "push" lawmower at Sears (which is great, BTW), but I realized that I would need some sort of edger since the manual mower leaves about 4" of the edges untouched. This item does the trick. The shear attachment is perfect for that part my mower doesn't reach. Plus as a very nice bonus, I now have a good quality shrubber to trim bushes and small branches. Overall, this product does as advertised.
There are several poor reviews, but I've noticed they are from several years ago. Perhaps B&D has addressed some problems? A major complaint was battery life. On a full charge, I used this tool for about 30 mins, and it was going strong when I was done. Also, it's plenty sharp to trim my grass quickly and easily, and the shrubber was tough, though it did jam an bigger braches (about 3/4"). But generally this is a handy, useful tool at a good price. I do recommend the extender handle to save your back though.

Have owned this for around a year and a half. The grass shear could not cut anything. I agree with another review that all you do is pull out grass. It finally would just jam the two blades whenever you tried to cut. I liked the hedge trimmer to manicure our shrubs, but now the battery is failing. This seems to be typical with Black and Decker and DeWalt Brands (the same company). I would love to find something like this for our shrubs that I can actually depend on. The blades on this unit are no good at all.
I tried to cut grass, and 50% of the grass gets pushed sideways between the top and bottom blade. You just have to keep working on the same spot of grass to get it all cut. I tried the shrubber blade, and it also did the same thing.
The blades also rusted overnight. Maybe stainless would be a better choice for the blades.
I also had trouble with battery life. I charged for 2 days, and I got about 10 minutes out of it.
I think Black&Decker needs to go back to the drawing board on the basics for this tool. I do love their other 18V yard products, but this one has to be returned.

THE SHEAR/ SHRUBBER HAS BEEN GREAT. HAS BEEN USED FOR MULTIPLE THINGS THAT WEREN'T EXPECTED. USE FOR DEADHEADING FLOWERS AND SMALL CLEAN UP JOBS. CORDLESS A REAL PLUS. VERY PLEASED! HAVE BOUGHT ANOTHER TO GIVE AS A GIFT.
