Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker ST1000 9-Inch 1.8 amp Electric Grass TrimmerCustomer Review: Cheap and does the job Summary: 4 Stars
Although it takes some practice to get the result you want, the price is right and it does the job. Also suitable for small patches of grass.
Customer Review: Cheap and reasonably good for small job Summary: 4 Stars
My wife and I had been using this grass trimmer for 4 times since purchase. Both of us have no mechanical or electrical problem with it. Being tall, I find the design of the trimmer to be abit too short. I have to bend slightly lower to cut the grass effectively. However, it is very light and my wife has no problem using it to cut the grass at the front porch. As this is a entry level trimmer, do not expect that it will have a lot of power. The power is sufficient to do the job well, but NOT for heavy usage.
Customer Review: Cuts well Summary: 4 Stars
The other reviews told me what I needed to buy this. It's light, not too unwieldy, easy to use. My hands were tired the first couple of times I used it trying to reach too far. Now I just balance it & swing it lightly back & forth. Cuts fast, cuts well. Doesn't tear up other things closeby.
Only downsides are that you can't see exactly where you are cutting and long extension cords need to be re-wrapped when done.
Customer Review: Does great double duty! Summary: 5 Stars
For 4 years I owned a home, but no lawnmower-- owing to uhhh, well, it's too much to explain here. Let's just say good old dad deserves to retire from yard work (forever) with honors. So, this year, I just didn't have the heart to ask him to cut my grass for yet another season. Instead, I purchased this grass trimmer thinking I'd at least cut the edges until figuring out how to address the issue of cutting the entire lawn. (Honestly, in my head, I was mulling over the pros and cons of reel mowers vs conventional mowers --a subject for another review.)
Anyhoo, as I plugged in the cord and got going I realized I was having so much fun, never having tended to my own yard before, I couldn't put the thing down. And, before I knew it --sort of serendipitously-- I had cut my entire lawn-- front, back and curbside (I live at the corner) with little effort.
The cord never came loose, and the "bump" spool feed feature functioned flawlessly and proved to be quite handy. I'm also amazed to find the spool has yet to run out after trimming my entire property on one occasion and then using it twice more for trimming.
I'm happy to say that since purchasing this thiggy I've also purchased a "reel" mower which is equally as efficient (for now). And, while the job of a grass trimmer is not to do the job of a lawnmower-- it's kind of nice to know that this particular grass trimmer can stand in for a sec if the mower ever goes on the blink.
The price was just right too --especially considering I paid no tax or shipping.
Customer Review: Does it's job Summary: 4 Stars
When this trimmer first arrived, it came in a box so small i thought there was some kind of mistake.when i opened it up, i realized that the trimmer came in three seperate parts, attached together by an electrical cord. very space saving and compact. even after you connect the 3 pieces together, it is not a very large tool, and is very light. as for how it performs, it does its job satisfactorily. i would have to go over certain areas more than once, but i did that with my old trimmer so it is not an issue for me. although i don't need to do it much, this trimmer seems to be easier to feed more line than my old trimmer. i don't use the bump feed, but rather i just push down on the cap and pull out the desired string. still works fine. overall, i'm very satisfied. i'm not sure how long this trimmer wil last, but even if it last only 5 more uses, i still would have gotten my money's worth.
