Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker ST1000 9-Inch 1.8 amp Electric Grass TrimmerCustomer Review: Don't underestimate this little trimmer! Summary: 5 Stars
I recently went shopping for a trimmer and was taken aback by how expensive they are at the discount and home improvement stores. So, I checked on-line stores and decided to give this little trimmer a try. At less than $20 on Amazon, I figured I couldn't go wrong. After all it is just a small, electric trimmer, just what I was looking for.
I have been pleasantly surprised with the ability of this trimmer. The handle length is not adjustable, but it is long enough that I stand up straight when using it (I am 5'11"). The light weight makes it easy to use with one hand. The bounce feed works fairly well, but I have found it easier to just turn the trimmer over, press the feed button with my thumb and pull out a little line when needed. I like the built in extension cord lock, it keeps the cord from coming unplugged; I don't understand how some reviewers are having their cord come unplugged. Maybe they are using those thin, flat, underrated extension cords that are not meant to be used with power tools anyway. I use a round cord designed for outdoor use and the cord lock holds it fine. The small motor does not bog down like I thought it would when cutting through reasonably thick stuff, and it does not damage wooden borders like my previous powerful trimmer did. It does an excellent job of trimming around the house foundation and along my fence. I just put it through the ultimate test by trimming the overgrown weeds from my alley. They were thick and over two feet tall, but this trimmer easily mowed them down. I just used a swinging motion and the trimmer made a quick and easy job of it, much easier than if I had tried to force my mower through the overgrowth! I think the included 20 feet of cutting line will last me through the summer.
The only downside is that the pre-wound spools are expensive. For about the same price I will buy a bulk package of the .065 line and wind my own. The bulk line is available on Amazon in 200 and 300 foot lengths.
I can highly recommend this inexpensive little trimmer; unless you have a very large area to trim.
Customer Review: Excellent Small Trimmer Summary: 4 Stars
(Note: the trimmer is actually black in color)
For a small trimmer, it does the job better than expected. I have a lot of yard to trim and was able to easily trim the edges of the entire perimeter and nearly trimmed the entire lawn too, it now looks like I recently mowed.
Lightweight and easy to handle.
*Get a long sturdy cord to use (it's not included) and make sure to loop it through the hole in the end - which the instructions mention - so your cord doesn't pop out. **This is NOT a rechargeable, cordless trimmer.
For the low price, it's a great deal, particularly if you have smaller yard and don't want a big gas trimmer. It's cheap enough to be disposable!
Customer Review: For what it is its a great deal Summary: 3 Stars
I received my Black & Decker ST1000 two days ago and used it for the first time today. When I first opened it, it was a lot smaller than I expected and it is all plastic. It does't really feel like a garden power tool but then again for $20 I don't think it matters. In general, is is a pretty competent l little power trimmer. I would not use it to clear lots of brush or weeds (I used to have a B&D Grass Hog that worked well for that until the movers stole it!) but for edging grass and cleaning up walkways and along fences, it works just fine. I found I had to go over an area a few times to get it cut properly and that the trimmer tends to cut as well as push down grass so it took longer that I would have liked to edge along the perimeter of the house. We have heavy grass here in Texas because of the heat and I imagine the trimmer would work even better on thinner, softer grass. Bump line feed worked without a hitch but the line breaks pretty easy and I used a lot of it. If I use it every two weeks and don't let the grass grow too high this little trimmer will work just fine for me- until I put out more money for a higher power trimmer.
PROS: $20 is hard to beat for a trimmer like this. Electric (cleaner air), light, small and easy to store.
CON: a bit too short for someone tall like me, the trimmer line it came with is pretty flimsy, not for heavy brush
Customer Review: GREAT GRASS TRIMMER Summary: 5 Stars
I PURCHASED THE BLACK & DECKER 9" ELECTRIC GRASS TRIMMER FROM AMAZON TO USE FOR TRIMMING AND EDGING AROUND FLOWER BEDS, TREES, BUSHES, SIDEWALKS, DRIVEWAY AND FENCES...I HAVE DONE ALL OF THOSE THINGS AND I LOVE THIS LITTLE TRIMMER...IT CAN DO ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING MY LARGER TRIMMER CAN DO. THE WEIGHT AND HEIGHT ARE PREFECT FOR ME (5'1"). AS OTHERS HAVE SAID, THE LENGTH OF THE TRIMMER MAY CAUSE SOME ISSUES FOR TALLER PEOPLE...I ALWAYS BUY ELECTRIC PRODUCTS BECAUSE THE SIZE AND WEIGHT OF GAS AND BATTERY OPERATED TOOLS ARE HARDER FOR ME TO HANDLE EASILY. THIS TRIMMER IS VERY QUIET AND EASY TO USE...I ALSO BOUGHT AN EXTRA CORD SPINDLE SO I CAN ALWAYS HAVE ONE READY TO USE...GREAT PRODUCT FOR ME.
Customer Review: Get the right tool for the job Summary: 4 Stars
When this first came, my wife thought they sent the wrong item. Turns out this trimmer is super light weight, and can fold down in three sections making it super small. Anyway all I needed was to do some light trimming around my house in a subdivision and this fits the bill, it cuts light grass around edges and is of good quality for the price paid. If you need anything more then that or if you think you may need something a little more then look at the next step up and get the right tool for what you need. Dont get the cheapest trimmer on amazon and expect it to do heavy brush around your fence line and then leave a bad review when it cant do it.
