I wish I could review the product fully, but Amazon shipped it without the black plastic shroud that goes on the back of the motor. And right now, I don't know when I'll get a replacement. Forget this piece of junk:
1. Uses only B&D supplied string which it eats up;
2. Automatic Feed doesn't work properly;
3. Mine quit working after three uses;
4. Have to drive 20 miles to turn in for warranty coverage;
5. Spend $20 to $30 more and get a 'real' trimmer.
By the way, at a garage sale yesterday, the guy was selling his exact same model complete with box...looks like it was used once.

I purchased this item as replacement for an earlier series model (originally bought in 1983) that finally died.
After reading the many reviews, I went ahead and ordered the B/D trimmer, quietly wondering if I had made a mistake and if the negative reviews were possibly right. Boy! Were they wrong!
This unit has a higher AMP rating and higher RPM rating than its 1983 predecessor. This new one cuts through the problem weeds that I've been fighting for the last couple of years. Some reviewers complain about the Auto Line Feed -tough! In my experience, the line does NOT feed too fast (requiring respooling) as some reported -consumption is about the same as that of "Old 83". The 'Bump Feed' system in that one would also jam on occasion -that's yard work!
The price comparison between the new one and "Old 83" is well in line (about 2x over the 1983 price) and to get 26 years out of any product is very fortunate indeed. If this new one lasts only half as long I'll still consider it an incredible bargain.
It's good to know that Black and Decker still manufactures a QUALITY product.

When I ordered this trimmer I was under the impression that I could start using it right away. Not so! It did not come with an electrical cord so could get started.
Had to go out and look for a cord that would fit! Great frustration.
