This is an incredible device. It does just what it says it will. Within a few minutes I identified the cold spots in my house, including my chimney -- which with the flue CLOSED was registering a good 10+ degrees below the remainder of the room. Energy auditors use thermal imaging devices costing over $2k. Audit cost can be $300. Though this device does not print a thermal scan of the whole house, you can effortlessly point and shoot this device all over the house to observe areas of high heat loss. And the cost is well under $100. The key to improving home insulative capability is to focus on the areas of greatest opportunity for savings. This device reveals opportunity areas in a quantitative way. It is effortless and actually kind of fun to use. Even my kids were kind of intrigued trying it. Unlike a one-time audit, you can keep coming back and measuring to confirm whether or not your upgrades had the desired result. So far I have only used this inside of my house. I would like to try it outdoors. By the way, it shines light at the area of interest. So it is good, and often in fact necessary, that this be used in the dark or in dimly lit ambient conditions.
