Now days if you purchase anything that's electronically, you have to learn the new gadgets. I won't be using this often but when I'm ready, I don't have to read to manual. It's sturdy, easy to handle and easy to read. That's what I wanted.Customer Review: Easy to use and very helpful

EASY, fun to use, and well worth the price. The first day we pinpointed several window and door leaks and fixed them.
Start by clicking on some part of the room that you would expect to be a normal temperature, like a sofa. That shows up as the top part of the display. Then point to another spot, like a window, and that temperature shows as the bottom part of the display. As you swing around to other areas the bottom part of the display instantaneously changes. You also get a green beam of light until you hit something that is at least 10 degrees different from the norm that you have set. Then it turns blue if colder, or red if hotter.
You can set that 10 degree differential to be less than that amount for purposes of the green versus blue versus red beam of light. I've read some complaints that you can't set the differential by more than 10 degrees, but I don't see that as a problem. Again, this setting is just for purposes of the color of the light beam - the real key is the display which shows the normal temperature on top and the comparative temperature on the bottom, regardless of how different the two are.
The detector gives almost instantaneous readings, and is fun to use when your spouse complains that a particular room is too hot or too cold. I highly recommend it!

I don't give a hoot about the 9v battery cost, it lasts forever anyway. But what I do like about this unit over the others, which is invaluable, is the the light beam changing color so you can spot drafts quickly. That idea is perfect. You can't watch meter reading variance and swing one of these around. That is ridiculous. The changing colored light beam idea is the only one which enables quickly scanning. Great product, I have used it all day now and applied outlet gaskets, foam strips etc. Even spotted a wall gap.Customer Review: Electronic Heat Leak Detector

I recently purchased an older home. Not surprisingly, this home needs better insulationm in lots of places. This great little tool from Black and Decker is helping me to find and correct those places. It is worth the purchase price many times over. I definitely would buy it again!
