Cons: Not variable speed. Runs too fast for some tasks!
Customer Review: Disappointed Summary: 1 Stars
Initially, I thought this would be a real handy tool combination. I charged it up and it seemed to work fine. When I went to charge it a second time the charger did not work. I called the repair number provided and they wanted me to send it back to them for repair. I didn't want to pay postage and I needed a tool now, so I sent it back to Amazon and ordered a different brand of screwdriver. Amazon returns are easy.
Customer Review: Excellent product, but beware of wild price fluctuations Summary: 4 Stars
this is a very nice product, and Amazon was offering it for a good price (50 bucks) - slightly better than Walmart - when I put it in my cart. But when I was about to check out, the price had shot up to 70, in the time it took me to go get lunch. Obviously, it's no longer a good value here. Look for it at the hardware stores and big box discounters. (There's also a coupon for a free battery at vpxsystemDOTcom.) So while I recommend the product, you need to watch the amazon price very carefully.
Customer Review: Good for Around the House and Beyond Summary: 4 Stars
I saw the set on a Gold Box deal ($49.99) and couldn't pass it up, particularly since I had the VPX3101 AC/USB Powersource and no VPX battery or charger. The Gold box deal got me a charger and battery plus the saw, power screwdriver and flashlight for only a little more than the cost of the charger alone.
After charging the battery (easy to tell when charged as the LED on the charger stops flashing when charged), I tested the flashlight and screwdriver. The flashlight is a three LED design and seems bright for a handheld light. The LEDs give a cool, white light and the lights pivot so you can aim it down, straight ahead or anywhere in between. The wrist lanyard is a bungee with a friction clip that lets you hang it around things. Overall, first impression is good product.
The power screwdriver is a two speed unit with reverse. It doesn't have a regular chuck but rather a hex connection. It comes with standard and philips "bits" for the unit and you could probably find hex drill bits if you need to drill small holes. However, in my opinion the head speed is not really up to much drilling. The speed of the low setting looks good for driving screws and I plan to use mine for light work inside the house and at hobby shows for assembling modules. For the price, it exceeded my expectations.
I haven't had a chance to test the saw but by the size, it looks like it could cut off long bolts and things of that nature. It comes with two saw blades.
The basic set comes in a box with a handle which I found convenient. I think it will be useful for tasks such as assembing furniture or other items. If you need more substantial woodworking, I would recommend getting woodworking grade tools. For the price I paid, it seems to be a good household set and I recommed it for that level of usage.
Customer Review: Good for what it is Summary: 4 Stars
Don't buy this package thinking that you are getting a heavy duty tool set, obviously. It's strengths are that the tools are lightweight, easy-to-handle, and maneuverable. I have used the driver most often and it has decent power given it's small size. None of these are hefty tools, however, and they don't give you a firm feel like better-made tools. They are quite useful for jobs that don't require much power. I bought this as a second set of tools for convenience and light-duty jobs; I have not been disappointed in it given my expectations. Good for basic around-the-house jobs.
