Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bosch VAC001 19mm-by-15-Foot Friction Fit Hose

Customer Review: An alternative
Summary: 3 Stars

After reading the comments on Amazon and elsewhere, looking at the unnecessarily large hose shown in the picture, and looking at the price, I decided to try to make an adapter for my existing Porter-Cable #39332 hose. No luck at the local auto supply store, but the local plumbing supply house found that a 1" O.D. grey plastic coupling with outside threads on both ends worked great. They carefully tapped the inside of the outlet on my Bosch 1294 detail sander and screwed the coupler inside. The PC 39332 intake (1" I.D.) slides snugly over the other end of the coupler.

Customer Review: Beware of screaming noise
Summary: 1 Stars

This product would be great if it didn't make a heinous squeal when it was being used. I figured i wouldn't read the reviews because it was a Bosch product and it was something simple like a hose and a few fittings. What could go wrong?? Even with ear plugs the noise makes me cringe. This item is garbage. DO NOT BUY!!!!

Customer Review: Clean, controlled sanding
Summary: 5 Stars

This hose is exactly what I was looking for. Some of the other reviewers perhaps were not using this hose for it primary intended use:

If you look nearer towards the top of this page, you'll see a section titled: "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought." Looking here, you'll really see what this hose is for: sanding! So, just to be clear, this hose is really not meant for all-around general vacuuming jobs, and for this purpose, I think you'd be disappointed.

For me, it works wonderfully with my Bosch 1/4 sheet sander. Basically, the hose is very lightweight and flexible. I tried using a regular shop-vac hose along with some adapters, but there was probably one foot of fittings hanging off the end of my sander, and it could only be held with two hands. It was about as easy as sanding with something as big and heavy as a circular saw.

With this hose, I can pick the sander up with one hand, and maneuver it around effortlessly. Sanding is light and controlled, and most of all - clean. And for fine sanding, I would also recommend picking up a disposable drywall bag for your shop-vac too - it will totally eliminate dust clouds coming out of your shop-vac. Shop Vac Drywall Bag, 10, 12 and 14 Gal

FYI - this hose should fit most ShopVac brand vacs, but will NOT fit "Ridgid" brand vacs.

Customer Review: Does the job.
Summary: 3 Stars

This is not a high quality hose but it does the job. Didn't fit my Craftsman vac or either of my Bosch sanders though if I had taken the time to measure before ordering I would have known that. A bit of Yankee ingenuity and some duct tape corrected that. I got none of the "screaming" as mentioned in other posts unless I intentionally attempted to do so by creating small leaks or partially clogging the hose or vents so if you have that problem maybe that's a good place to start.
The hose is plenty long enough and still has good suction on my 6.5 hp Craftsman vac. It's lightweight and doesn't interfere with the task at hand.
If your on a budget and use it only occasionally it'll do the job. If you are a pro, a serious woodworker or plan on using it a lot then you need a Fein anyway and I certainly would not recommend this hose for you.

Customer Review: Exc for the specific job it is designed to do
Summary: 5 Stars

It seems some of the reviewers are confused as to the purpose of this hose. It is not a general purpose shop vac hose. It is designed specifically to hook up to Bosch sanders without having to use the VAC002 adaptor to a 1 1/4" hose. I use it on the RS006 adaptor which replaces the canister on the 1295 and 1293. And it slides right on to the port on the 3x21 belt sander.

It has been made light so you can easily sand with it. To make it big, heavy and reinforced would defeat it's purpose. It makes sanding much easier. At 15 ft long you have enough hose and it has a 2 1/4 male end that attaches right to your shop vac. For use specifically with Bosch sanders (or maybe some other European stuff with the same size sander pickup) I recomend it highly.
