Tools and Hardware Reviews of Brita 35530 Ultramax Dispenser

Customer Review: Does what it's supposed to do, but not perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

It filters out some minerals and chlorine, and the water tastes great. The size is reasonable, fits in a fridge, and definitely needs to be refilled less often than the Brita water pitchers. The spout means that water does not need to finish filtering before pouring. I have an older model that does not include the electronic sensor, but it did come with plastic stickers to attach to it to indicate when the filter needs replacing.

The problems: The spout is mounted too high, and it does not drain fully, and tilting the dispenser does not help with the last 1/2" of water left. It leaked a bit when it was placed in the fridge, but the problem went away when I moved it to my counter and was kept at room temperature.

I'm happy with it for the 2 months I've had it so far.

Customer Review: Don't drink the kool-aid.
Summary: 5 Stars

No, the title of this review isn't warning you about making kool-aid in a water purifier. Rather to tell the truth about carbon/charcoal filters. They don't go bad. I've been using this filter for 9 months now filling it up three times a day, but more to the point, I used to work with a large water filtration team in charge of cleaning up an EPA superfund site. They had great big tanks full of sand and carbon to filter out a bunch of little nasties that you and your tap water can't even imagine. When the flow was restricted they'd just shoot the water back the other way for a bit and then return to normal operation. The carbon (little black sand) in your filter does not go bad, no matter what the manufacturers tell you. That's how they make their money, by selling you a plastic cup filled with black sand every couple of months. The filter, over a very long period of time, may become clogged. If that happens, take it out, run water over it, turn it upside down, bang it on the counter, I don't care. Whatever you do, buy another filter only as a last resort.

Let me repeat this. These filtration people are selling you a cheap plastic tub with sand in the top and a nozzle on the bottom. The only high tech thing about this is the electronic filter-alarm doohickey that I've never even turned on. Use it until the water just won't go through it any longer. By that time you'll probably just want to buy a brand new one.

Edit: I was trying to make as simple a statement as possible about how infrequently you REALLY need to change your filter. The activated charcoal inside the filter can absorb so much more than the company would have you believe. If you use this for a city water source, the only thing you'll really need it to filter is chlorine. If you begin to taste chlorine in your filtered water, change your filter. I use mine for well water, so all I need is to filter any detritus that may come up from the ground. Therefore, as long as the water flows, I won't need to change my filter.

I hope this will satisfy the further questions.

Customer Review: Easiest glass of water ever.
Summary: 4 Stars

I have always owned the brita pitchers, which I loved. Then I saw this ultramax dispenser at a friends house and loved it. It is so easy and convinient. I drink water all day long and it is such a pain to fill up water bottles with the pitchers all day. This is perfect for filling up water bottles. The only problem I had was that it was shipped broke. There was a piece broken off at the corner. The broken spot did not affect the dispenser from working so I did not return it. It works perfectly but it just has a crack in it. Just thought I should share this information with you to avoid future problems.

Customer Review: Easy water dispenser for kids!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this dispenser over a year ago because we needed a new Brita pitcher and decided with 2 kids, this would be perfect to sit on the refrigerator shelf so we don't have to pull out a large pitcher every time someone wanted water. In fact, our old pitcher broke when my son went to get himself water and accidently dropped the pitcher on the floor. I also wanted a larger dispenser so that we don't have to refil it so often. This dispenser is perfect for our needs - it's large, easy to fill a glass without moving it and even easy to refil. It's rectangular shape makes it easy to fit on a shelf either in the fridge or on the counter. It has easy to grasp handles on the tops of the sides so it is easier to pull out of the fridge and carry to the sink. It has a smaller lid on the main lid so you can just remove that to refil. The best part is that my kids can refil their water cups by themselves - they like to do it themselves anyway!
So overall, I am extremely happy with this dispenser and highly recommend it!

Customer Review: Easy, Same Brita Quality, Perfect for small family of 2-4
Summary: 5 Stars

We had previously used Brita products, specially the 1 gallon jug. But it was too small for us and I always felt lazy to fill it, because once I fill, I had to wait to drink just a glass of water. And then, within few glasses, repeat all over again. Due to the smaller size of previous filter we ended up buying more plastic water bottles.

With Brita Ultramax, all our problems were solved and very first day I realized how good my purchase is..

1. Nice small design, so filter can be placed easily anywhere in Kitchen. Nice little tap for ease of operation.
2. Good water quality. I did not check with any water quality meter, but water certainly tastes better after filtration
3. Uses same Brita standard filter
4. Enough quantity of water for a family of 2-4
5. Very easy to refill, good for lazy guys like me
6. Helps me making an environmental friendly person by avoiding plastic bottles.
7. It also as the filter indicator which helps you to decide when to replace the filter.

I would highly recommend this product.
