Tools and Hardware Reviews of Brita 42201 On Tap Filtration System, WhiteCustomer Review: 3 tries, 3 failures Summary: 1 Stars
I went through three complete systems, assorted adapters, teflon tape and different washers and over $100 plus 6 hours of labor including trips to hardware store...and I gave up.
Bottom line: TOO FEW THREADS on the plastic collar to adequately catch & attach to either the faucet or any given adapter. Brita even sent me a complimentary filter set and adapters. There is no way this unit could maintain a seal and stand up to any amount of stress or rotation. I would advise anyone to try another brand, get the pitcher, or bottled water. It was a frustrating waste of time, but Brita did offer to send me a free pitcher w/filters to compensate me for my loss.
Customer Review: A filter or a bomb? Summary: 1 Stars
This horrendous product is a waste of your time and money. Using the internal thread adapter I soon found that after tightening a certain degree it would make a clicking noise and go from tight to loose. The "loose" setting leaks a tremendous flow of water. The "tight" setting filters about 2 L of water before violently exploding, shooting the filter like a rocket into your sink. What's worse is that I can find no evidence of the threads actually stripping! Meaning that some overpaid oaf in quality control actually missed this little gem. Perhaps I can get it to shoot into my eye so I can sue Brita...Oh and the automated system in the complaints department apparently deemed that I need new adapters. They are in the mail. Never talked to a real person.
Customer Review: A perfect device, if you hate things that work. Summary: 1 Stars
I've never written a review before, but I've never been so baffled and shocked that a company could release such a terrible product.
I wanted to exercise what little power I have as an individual consumer and steer as many people away from this filter as I can. I bought this after trying the PUR faucet filter, which worked OK ( and I stress OK ) for about a year and a half before the plastic case cracked and it shot water everywhere. I'll never buy anything from Pur again, surely I thought the competition would be able to put something out that works better.
Appearance-wise, the Brita filter looked more durable and the 3 levels of output seemed cool. When first opening the box, though, you'll notice that the adapter is made of cheap plastic. I tried to get it to work, and every time the filter just popped off when the water pressure was about half strength. I then switch the adapter to a metal one ( from the PUR filter, who seemed to have enough sense to go not the extra mile, but at least the mile, to include something proper). After configuring and swearing a lot I finally got the filter to fit where it didn't leak and didn't pop off at full pressure. However, the placement was so sensitive i knew it was a matter of time before it would come undone again.
Fast forward 2 months. 2. Months. It started popping off all the time. I could never find the 'sweet spot' again, and really, should a product require a sweet spot so that is can operate normally? I went online to see if anyone had ideas, and saw that I was not alone in this frustration. Many people seemed to have some jerryrigged hack to get it to stay on or not leak, or took they better route and threw it away and went something else (Hint hint, the Culligan faucet seems to be much better).
I tried using thread tape. No luck. I even got a friend that owns a construction company to try to get it to work and he couldn't either. At this point you throw up your hands, and toss it.
To the folks at Brita: I don't know who does your quality control, but wouldn't you at least consider they aren't doing their job? Did they try it on one faucet and saw that it worked for an hour, and decided that was good enough to ship nationwide? Despite the tons of negative reviews from multiple sources you have not said anything on your web site to offer assistance, replacements, or even a pledge to correct the issue. None of the FAQs or support documents even mention what to do if you can't get the darn thing to stay on, desipte that being the number one complaint. Doesn't the vast array of one star ratings trigger you into action? You remain quiet and hope others will fall prey to this cheap, useless piece of trash. Maybe give up on the complicated faucet division and stick to something you can handle: making a device that holds water. I'll never buy another Brita product again and thanks for wasting my time and money.
Customer Review: A piece of junk Summary: 1 Stars
I've had this filter for over two years and fortunately, about two months ago, I gave in and threw it out. This is a piece of junk: it sprays from every single place imaginable. Basically, when you want to get a glass of water, you get an additional free shower with it. Not what you wanna experience when it's 10 outside. Another issue is the one of the little plastic nob you have to turn to filter your water: after less than a year of usage it became impossible to turn so I was stuck with filtered water even when I didn't need it. I went out and bought the Culligan FM-15A. I am impressed by the quality difference: the Culligan is made with metal (not plastic) so the water doesn't spray everywhere (no small spills either). The nob is also made of metal and it goes back to its original position every time you close the tap. Finally, I don't hate using my sink anymore. Thanks Culligan.
Customer Review: A waste of money! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought a Brita filter and am thoroughly disgusted with it. The flow of water through the filter is so piddling that it takes close to two minutes to fill a 1.5 liter bottle, and the filter system itself leaks and pops off the faucet anytime the water is turned up beyond a trickle.
The water (when I COULD get water) did taste better, but between the spurting all over the kitchen and the fact that the filter kept popping off the faucet, it just plain wasn't worth it.
Spare yourself the money: Get something that works. A Brita just isn't worth the aggravation.
