Tools and Hardware Reviews of Brita 42201 On Tap Filtration System, White

Customer Review: Cheaply made filter breaks after only a few months--don't buy it
Summary: 1 Stars

I really wanted to like the Brita filter, I did. My sister has the pitcher system which she swears by. I like the idea of the on-tap filter and the space-saving convenience. But now that our third--third, mind you--filter system has exploded, I'm giving up.

We tried this model, and the more recent one with the even more awkward and poorly designed dial-switch, which proved no more durable. Cheap construction, don't buy it.

Customer Review: Complete deterioration in quality of tap-mount
Summary: 1 Stars

I am on my third Brita tap mount in 2 months. On the first, the indicator light stopped working even before the first filter change. The second, sent to me by the company as a replacement, didn't fit properly on the tap and kept falling off. The third, another purchase and a brand-new design, leaked copious amounts of water from the filter release button and from the filter vs. tap water toggle.

I have used Brita tap-mounts for years. The previous tap-mount lasted several years and was replaced because its physical appearance started to deteriorate. Quality control has clearly declined and the new design is fatally flawed. My recommendation? Buy Pur.

Customer Review: DO YOURSELF A FAVOR...CALL BRITA IMMEDIATELY AND ASK FOR METAL CONNECTORS
Summary: 1 Stars

In reference to the connection problems everyone is having ...save yourself potential headache and IMMEDIATELY call the Brita 800 # and ask for metal connectors. I haven't had success keeping the connection tight without the metal ones. The cheap plastic connectors included in the original package are almost guaranteed to fail. Brita must know this...I wish they would fix this problem and just include the metal ones standard.

Customer Review: Death Trap!
Summary: 1 Stars

I am a doctor in a large metro area. I bought Brita filters some months ago, thinking that the tap water needed to be filtered. This filter started growing mold and God-knows what else inside the housing. I had been having diarrhea and upset stomach for the last few weeks before I took this thing off the tap. I had no idea what was going on, until I took it apart. There was red mold and black mold all over the water flow area, inside and outside the housing. I couldn't believe it!! This filter is made for the third world where there are larvae and eggs in the water. There is chemical and bacterial contamination in the US. This thing does nothing for that. It is a lawsuit waiting to happen. I wrote to Brita, and have heard little else but party-line. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, OR ANYTHING LIKE IT. Drink distilled water like I do now. Or just drink tap water.

Customer Review: Difficulties
Summary: 4 Stars

So, I had the previous model and received this one for free as a replacement when the earlier model broke after 1 year. This one did not fit my faucet, and the included adapters were not at all helpful. So I called Brita and they sent me a set of 3 new metal/chrome adapters. Well, two of these adapters did not fit my faucet at all and the third one was just and extension connection, with female and male threading of the same size. Anyways, using the extension piece, I was able to figure out that the problem was that the included rubber washer with mesh screen did not allow enough of the filter to screw on the faucet and form a tight fit, so the unit would fall off and water would splash everywhere, every time I attempted to filter the water. I then realized that after 1 year of use, the rubber washer-mesh screen piece from my previous filter was thinner due to compression and as soon as I switched this out, the unit fit as it was supposed to, without the need of any adapters. They should just make the part that screws onto the faucet a bit taller so the there is a greater length of threading. If they made the threading a little more aggressive, so it holds tight, it might be nicer too. Or they could sell thinner washer-screen mesh, that'd be easiest and best!
