Tools and Hardware Reviews of Brita 42202 Ultra Faucet Filter, with Pitcher

Customer Review: Working great after 2 1/2 years!
Summary: 5 Stars

We have had Brita Faucet Filter for 2 1/2 years with no problems and would not live without it.
Our water in Dallas is horrible, especially in the summer. It tastes too bad to drink and we would only drink bottled water. We decided to purchase a Brita Pitcher which we liked, but it was a pain to constantly fill the pitcher. We decided to try a Faucet filter.
My husband was sure that the Brita Faucet Filter would not perform as well as the pitcher, so I setup a blind taste test for him with a glass of water from each the Brita Faucet Filter and the Brita Pitcher. He chose the Brita Faucet Filter as having the best taste (or lack of BAD taste) and I have to agree. So the pitcher has been stored away and now we wouldn't live without the Faucet Filter.

If there are any cons to the Brita Faucet Filter they would be:
1) The type of connector we needed to attach it to our faucet was not in the box. They do have a way for you to call in and get another kit of connectors which we received about 2 weeks after we called in. One of those did fit.
2) The indicator flashes red once about 20 gallons (?) before you need to change it, and twice when it must be changed. But we have noticed that at soon as it goes to flashing red once the quality of the filter dimishes quickly and you really can't get that last 20 gallons filtered.

Customer Review: brita sink filter
Summary: 3 Stars

This product was great for maybe at the most 1 year. The water was excellent, no chlorine taste and ran faster through the filter then the Pur system I had before. Now I have to reorder it though, can't find a new one in any store. The part that connects to the faucet has been leaking when the sink is on and spraying all over the sink, surroundings and me. We had to disconnect it. Since there are so few on the market I am getting Brita again, Pur drove me nuts cause it worked so slowly. I also am probally going to get the one that comes w/ the sink connection and the pitcher since it is only $... more for the sink filter alone. Go figure.

Customer Review: message to brita re: leakage
Summary: 2 Stars

It is guaranteed, these filters WILL leak eventually. Took about 15 mos. for the problem to become intolerable. although i've heard it could happen in as few as 3 months.. Here is a letter written to Brita...let's hope they respond.

Hello, We've purchased the Brita Ultra Faucet Filter With Pitcher model 42202 with the FF-100 filter in April 2001. It has been an essential part of our lives (baby, etc) since there is quite a noticable difference in the quality of our tap water with and without the filter. We've even proudly endorsed your products to other members of our family and friends (they make excellent gifts!)
Our question is this. Upon first installation in March 2001, it was noticed that a few droplets of water were escaping from the filter in the area between the collar which attaches to the kitchen nozzle and the actual body of the filter. At first it was not an issue. However, now after 5 filter replacements the leakage has become much worse to the point of becoming annoying. Yes, it has been removed and reinstalled, however the problem lies between the spinning ring and the filter body itself, which appears unserviceable. Another issue is that the indicator LED has seized to operate. Even following the instructions (wait 30 seconds before installing the new filter so the chip could reset) did not work. It does not light (red/green) with any filter, used or new.
Well, the only solution we see is to purchase another FF-100 filter system, but is the life expectancy of these filters around one year? If so, will we need to continue this process every year? Or do you recommend another solution?
Thank you,
Rick A.
