Tools and Hardware Reviews of Brita 42609 Pitcher Replacement Filters, 10-PackCustomer Review: Fine if you are in a place where the water is already fairly clean Summary: 3 Stars
The city water where I live already undergoes quite a bit of treatment and is generally thought to be very clean. As a result, I use the brita filters as a method of cleaning the water one last time, which usually marginally improves the taste of the water.
I purchased the 10 pack off of amazon because it was a great deal. Like many of the other reviews of mentioned, there does seem to be something different about these versus the ones that you purchase in the store. I noticed a lot more of the charcoal coming out of the top of the filter into the carriage. The pitcher would get a lot more dark and collect quite a bit more charcoal than I ever noticed in the past. It was a bit disturbing.
However, the water did taste better, relative to the non-filtered water. I can only assume that it was doing some of the filtering you'd expect from a charcoal filter (plenty of website to explain what I mean by this). However, I am now using a different system.
As I had not experienced this weird charcoal leakage thing from any of the filters I'd purchased in a store, I would say that these are somehow different.
Customer Review: Good deal and improved product Summary: 5 Stars
We've been using this model Brita filter since 2000. We used to get them at BJs, but I thought I'd try Amazon, and this 10 pack is the best deal we found on here, especially with the free shipping.
That said, this is the first time in history that we haven't had carbon particles in the add-water section of the pitcher. Supposedly, after you install the filter you'll get some carbon particles in the non-filtered section for a few fillings, and then it stops. I can say that in over 7 years, we've never had a filter that didn't leach particles (and I don't mean a picky 5 - 6 particles, but a bunch!). It's never affected the filtered water - just annoying to see them floating around when you add water to be filtered. This is the first time we haven't had that experience, ever.
Customer Review: Good for filtering water Summary: 5 Stars
Tap water tastes better after filtering it, I guess. I heard something about using water filters to lower the alcohol volume of vodka, though I'm personally not interested in verifying.

These Brita Filters for All Those Brita Pitchers and Dispensers are a Great Value to Begin with When Compared to Bottled Water and are Also Much Better for the Environment. I Own the Big Rectangular Brita Dispenser that Holds Alot of Water, which Means Less Time Refilling. You Can't Beat the Amazon Price of These Filters at about $4 a Filter, Anywhere Online or In Store. I Definitely Recommended You Buy the 10 Pack Size for the Best Value per Filter if You Use or Will Use Your Pitcher or Dispenser on a Daily Basis. Easy to Install and Use. Great Filters at a Great Price...... Thanks to Amazon.com !!
