Tools and Hardware Reviews of Brita 42622 On Tap Filtration System, White/ChromeCustomer Review: It falls off Summary: 2 Stars
I used this once, for about 5 minutes after I installed it, to get some water for iced tea. The water in my apartment is terrible, but after coming out it of the filter it tasted OK.
The problem is that next time I turned the faucet on, the filter shot off into the sink. I reattached it (making sure I had the threads lined up right and everything) and tried again, but the same thing kept happening. After the sixth time or so, the thing wouldn't even screw on at all. There's just not enough thread on the faucet for the filter to hook onto securely.
I've problems with these things (a few different Brita and Pur units) in all but one place I've lived, so if you're going to buy one, make sure you've got more than just 3 or 4 threads on the end of your faucet. And don't put any fragile dishes underneath the thing until you're sure it'll stay on.
Customer Review: It makes your water taste better. . .period. Summary: 4 Stars
I am not a chemist, nor am I a physician (my wife is, though). I am, however, a parent, and I installed the Brita On Tap on my faucet because our water tasted terrible [highly chlorinated with other mystery chemical tastes] -- my daughter had trouble choking it down. The Brita changed that immediately after installation. The water is now really tasty!
People who are concerned about bacteria in their water should take greater steps than buying this type of filter. . . usually allowing the water to run for a bit before filling a glass will alleviate any potential harm from microorganisms. However, if bacteria colonize a filter (I'm not sure what they would live on inside the filter) running the water would probably not be adequate. If this is the case in your home, you have larger issues than inadequate filtration on your faucet. As chlorinated as our water is, however, I'm not sure what could live in it that wouldn't put us on the evening news.
I have backpacked and used filtration systems designed to filter out all sorts of nasty bugs. . . .this is not the correct application for this type of filter. Unless you're Howard Hughes, however, the filtration provided by this unit should be adequate for most of us in developed nations.
I'm only giving this unit four stars because installation was a bit of a pain. I would have preferred to use tools to securely install it, but it is a finger-tighten sort of deal (I have large hands, so I had a little trouble). Once I got it on, however, it was securely mounted and watertight.
I've heard that the unit does not filter out flouride from the water, but I haven't been able to confirm this. Actually, I want the flouride (and please spare me the conspiracy theories about the evils of flouridated water -- succomb to the bottled water marketers if this is a big concern). My wife insists that it is better for our daughter to have it in our water than not, and she's a sharp lady and an MD to boot. Our dentist friends uniformly say the same thing.
Bottom line: Great tasting water! Coffee even tastes way better nowadays.
Customer Review: Love This Faucet! Summary: 5 Stars
I use it for cooking. I use it for my dog's water. I use it for cleaning. The faucet works very well and I am enjoying it immensely. I would say the greatest advantage of owning one is cutting down on drinking water for the dog (we don't like him drinking straight tap water) and the peace of mind in knwoing that our vegetables, once rinsed, do not contain any chemicals or contaminants. Bravo Brita!
Customer Review: Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
There is nothing like spring water that comes out of your tap! The water tastes extremely clean and was an immediate difference. I have no leaking issues at all after a month of very, very frequent use. I use it for everything from ice cubes to my humidifier. I cant believe that I waited so long to purchase one.
Customer Review: Not so durable...another plastic failure? Summary: 3 Stars
Mine started leaking between where it attaches to the faucet and the main body of the filter, but it lasted about 8 months and did the job. Too bad that it's not constructed out of more durable materials as the sink gets hard and heavy use...there is a year warranty on the thing and this one is going back.
