Tools and Hardware Reviews of Brita 42622 On Tap Filtration System, White/ChromeCustomer Review: Now I love my tap water! Summary: 4 Stars
After reading some of the reviews for faucet-mount water filters, I was a bit wary about purchasing one. It had become a necessity, though, as our city's water didn't quite pass muster this time around, and I have a sensitive system when it comes to water quality. Once I received the filter system, I did have some minor problems with installation which were easily solved (the smaller filter screen gasket was preventing the threads on the filter from meeting up with the threads on my faucet - an easy fix). I made sure to run cold water through the filter for a few more than the recommended five minutes. I have had no problem with the filter falling off or slowing down the water flow too much. It actually seems as if the flow has increased a bit since I installed it. I think the those who have had problems with the filter falling off may have had the same threading problem I did, which requires shaving down the filter screen gasket slightly so it takes up a little less space or just getting rid of the filter screen altogether, which didn't seem to hurt either. I guess you could also try deepening the end of the thread on the filter so it starts easier, too.
As for actual water filtration quality, I am so far THRILLED with the performance of this product. My only other concern is lifespan of the filter itself, as I have only had it for one month (that is why -1 star - I have not had it long enough to give it a full rating).
Well worth the money, IMHO.
Customer Review: Poor Design Summary: 1 Stars
I had no problem installing this product and it worked great for a few hours. The water tasted great and it was easy to use. However, when the water filter got full of water it got heavy. As a result, the system repatedly fell off the faucet, even without being in use. The two treads on the plastic mounting cap are not sufficient to hold the heavy device. I am returning mine for a pitcher.
Customer Review: Pops right off, do not buy!! Summary: 1 Stars
This unit replaced our other Brita on-tap filter and it does pop right off after a few hours of use, just like other reviewers said! I even have an externally threaded faucet so didn't need any adapters, the unit simply can't handle the water pressure. The older, non-chrome model fit more tightly and could handle the pressure, this one can't at all - shame on Brita, this would have been obvious from testing!
Customer Review: Returning it to the store Summary: 1 Stars
I certainly don't doubt anyone's story (good or bad) about this product but it was a complete FAIL for me. I installed about a day and a half ago. This morning, it shot off the faucet and now it won't stay attached with the water running. It doesn't appear to be blocked, and I can blow air through it. For what it's worth, I only hand-tightened it and I don't believe I over did it.
Before this, I had a Pur under-faucet filter for about a year. It developed a crack in the thin housing and started spraying. I bought the Brita because it looked sturdier.
While it lasted, here's how I thought it stacked up:
* The water tasted good.
* The flow out of the filter was relatively generous.
* The filters are MUCH easier to change.
* The unit has a slide-switch so you can bypass the filter. It's easy enough to use but I like Pur's version better.
* The unit doesn't get in my way when using the sink.
* The aerator isn't that smooth. I'd call the water flow "chunky".
Overall, if the Brita had to fail, I am happy it failed so quickly. I still have the receipt and haven't invested in a box of replacement filters.
Customer Review: Review - Just Got It Summary: 3 Stars
I just bought this yesterday and so far no complaints. I actually paid more because I got mine at Bed,Bath & Beyond and it included a pitcher which definitely was not worth the extra ten dollars but with their discounts and a store credit it was worth it. Plus if I hate it in 2 weeks I'll bring it right back to the store - they take back anything. So installation was a breeze. Water flow is ok considering it is going through the filter. No leaks. Non filtered spray is good too. The only complaint is that I cant use one of those flexible spray attachments so the position of the spray is fixed. I am curious if I will agree with the other reviews after a few weeks that say "no" to this product. I promise to come back (end of June) and write an update
Update: June 22 (Purchased 6/6) So far I have not experienced any problems and I'm pretty happy with it. My only concern is if this filter will last at least 3 months making it more cost effective than bottled water.
Update: Sep. 11 Ok, so I recently replaced the filter. The red light had not gone but I figured it might have accidentally got reset. I live alone and it lasted about 3 months - maybe I could have kept it on a little longer though after putting on a new filter you realize how much the water flow diminishes over the life of the filter. I guess this can be expected as the filter does its job and fills up with junk. I do like it better than using the filter-pitchers and I will continue using it. This will be my last update as I feel my review was prettry comprehensive.
Update: Just replaced, Dec. 31st. The red light came on indicating I had about 20 gallons left but filtration was slow. It lasted me (1 person) 3 and a half months this time. I think bigger under sink filters are probaby better but this one does the job if you rent and dont want to mess with the plumbing.
