Tools and Hardware Reviews of Brita 42633 Faucet Filtration System, Black/ChromeCustomer Review: Faulty Defective Design Summary: 1 Stars
We have used the white sink attachment design in the past; but stores here favor the black new design. This design leaks through the light window, which shone red on its light upon its use continuously - no green here. Leaks then happened around the replacement filter and the faucet sprout where it was attached. After getting one replacement by Brita (they had a nice customer service rep who said that the company had a different company and/or design concocted).
The replacement attachment (also black) - not only leaked around the small threaded cap, but under any extended time (over two minutes) or an increase in water pressure it blew off the faucet causing massive water sprays and broken dishes when the filter landed on them. Another call to the Brita people lead to them sending what they thought would be the "correct" threads for the faucet. When the three connector threads arrived, NONE of them fit the faucet and their filter correctly. After 6 years of buying Brita filters (and never having a past problem with them) we are tossing the filter and the replacement filters in the trash and starting on a new brand - Du Pont's. Hope this one will work out better. Don't say you weren't warned!
Customer Review: Filter works, attachments don't... Summary: 1 Stars
We have gone through 3 of these in 2 years. The actual water filter works great but the way it attaches to your sink will eventually fail and end up spraying you or completely falling off. The attachment parts are plastic and if the threads don't get stripped while you put it on the first time, they will eventually wear down and then there is nothing you can do except shell out more bucks for a new one - mainly just for the little plastic threaded connector. Also, the indicator light is not 100% reliable. I recall it flashing red for weeks even though we had just put a brand new filter in the holder.
Customer Review: Find a Metal Faucet Adapter and It's All Good Summary: 4 Stars
As many other reviewers have noted, the included faucet adapters leave much to be desired. My attempts to install this filter with the included adapter all resulted in the filter rocketing away from the faucet with a nice 'boom' sound the moment I turned on the water.
As best as I can tell, the adapter has two flaws: the thread diameter is too small, and the thread length is too short. These two mistakes combine to cause the adapter thread to slip on the filter thread with relatively little force. In my case, merely screwing in the filter by hand was enough to cause it to slip (e.g. if you turn a lid on a glass jar hard enough, the threads will slip and the lid will loosen). As far as I can tell, the plastics used are good ones, so I am forced to conclude that this is a design or manufacturing problem. If you plan to buy this product, I strongly recommend finding or buying the metal adapter you need (few bucks at a hardware store, or about $10 after shipping online).
So why give this a good rating? Because once I installed a metal adapter (from an older water filter), this filter has worked beautifully. The water tastes good. The green indicator light and the spray mode are nice touches. If it had come with a working adapter, I'd give it 5 stars. And if I had to go out and buy an adapter, I'd give it 1 star.
Also be aware that all water will now come out about 1.5 inches below the faucet, which can make filling or cleaning large pots or kettles a little more annoying than before.
Customer Review: Free bath with every filter Summary: 1 Stars
Had one of these eons ago. You know, back when they shipped with metal adaptors? sigh...
Anyway, I hated them passionately back then. Just found them in the way all the time BUT they never popped off.
However, my wife likes them. Idiot that I am I bought one for her birthday a while back. So, in the past year went thru 3 of them. Yes, popping off.
And oddly enough, we have a hose that has a filter in it. Has a button that's either spray or filtered. That's handy. But, she won't use it. Gotta have the britta. Go figger.
In the process of glueing the adapter to the filter to see if that works as a last resort. In a way, I'm hoping it doesn't work! :)
