Tools and Hardware Reviews of Brushed Aluminum Wall Tiles Square

Customer Review: Great Look
Summary: 4 Stars

I love the way my kitchen backsplash looks with these. Very easy to cut. I was not able to see the VERY subtle grain of the tiles until they were on the wall, so mine are random, but still looks nice. I live in an older house, so nothing is square. This means I need some type of trim for where the tile meets the kitchen counter. Still trying to figure this out. Also, it would be nice to have a corner trim and an edge trim. It did take longer than I expected to install, but that was because I only had one row of whole tiles and had to cut for above and below. I only used the adhesive supplied, and have had to go back on some of the tiles and add additional adhesive. Overall, I recommend this product and am quite pleased with the results.

Customer Review: Great Solution for Affordable Kitchen
Summary: 4 Stars

Okay, so my goal in redoing my kitchen was to keep costs down... because, as anyone knows, kitchen remodeling can get expensive real easily. We want to hold off on doing a total remodel for five or so years, so keeping things inexpensive and easy was our primary goal for this time around.

After painting our cabinets (which came out great) and walls, we decided to buy these aluminum tiles for our backsplash area. We have old wallpaper there and were afraid to get into taking it all down (for fear of what we'd find underneith and the can of worms that might open up). These self-stick aluminum tiles seemed the perfect solution!

They are easy to put up. I followed some of the other reviews here and used a bit of construction adhesive in addition to the included two-sided tape. I put the 4 included adhesives in the corners, plus one additional one in the center (I bought extra-strong, double-sided tape from home depot) and then just a couple of dabs of construction adhesive. Maybe overkill, since even with the double-sided tape they seemed to secure fairly well, but I don't want to worry about these things falling off the wall and figured they could use all the help they could get going up over old wallpaper.

These are real aluminum, NOT vinyl that looks like aluminum.... BUT they ARE easy to cut with scissors, just as advertised. You'll want to be careful because the edges can be a bit sharp. I had no problem cutting edges and around outlets. You'll also want to use some extra double-sided tape in the center (the thick stuff) so you don't end up with "dents" or "bends", even if you decide not to use construction adhesive.

If you hang them like the picture (in a diamond pattern, not square) you'll want to buy the triangles too. I decided to save myself the extra money and work and hang them square.

My ONLY criticism is with edges and corners that are difficult to line up. We live in an older house and our corners and wall edges are no longer perfect. There was no way to get the tiles completely square to the cabinets while still being square to the wall corners. In other words, we have some gaps. I decided to make the tiles square to the cabinets so in the corners of the room the tiles just don't line up properly. I did the best I could... Also, where you might have an exposed edge (where you have to cut a tile, but that cut isn't facing a corner or cabinet edge) that exposed edge of the tile is a bit awkward. It's hard to explain, but I'm sure other buyers know what I mean. It would be nice if there was matching molding and trim you could buy to hide edge-cuts and misaligned corners. I'm heading over to Home Depot tomorrow to see what I can find myself.

Overall, I'd buy them again in a heartbeat. Cheap. Easy! and Looks Great!

Customer Review: Great Tiles. bad tape
Summary: 4 Stars

UPDATE: for those asking the size of the tiles: They are 4 and 1/4 inches square. The 3m tape has held up well - on the wall for over a year and no lifting of tile edges - just as stable as the day I put them up. Standard stainless steel outlet covers match these tiles well. One word of caution on installation: if you use the tape just around the backside outer edge - don't push in the center of the tile when you install it - you can dent the tile if you push too hard where there is no tape. Don't forget the triangle tiles if you need them.

A little math on tile size and coverage: each tile is 4.25 inches square so: 4.25 * 4.25 = 18 square inches per tile. 144 square inches in a square foot divided by 18 = 8 tiles per square foot. A package of 24 tiles does cover 3 square feet.

I really like these tiles, you can't tell if they are stainless steel or aluminum from looking at them and will match either metal. They are thick enough to be sturdy and resist dents but thin enough to cut with tin snips. 5 stars for the tiles, zero stars for the included double sided tape - four stars overall. The included tape is completely useless - don't bother with it because it is A) not thick enough to work and B) the adhesive is very weak. Get some 3M double sided foam tape and use that instead - it is very strong and exactly the right thickness. Using the 3m foam tape, just around the outside edge on the back side of the tile is all that is needed to keep the tile in place forever. I had to pull one tile off because it was not aligned correctly and the 3m tape pulled the drywall apart and left a crater in it. No need for any other adhesive.

Customer Review: Great, if you use other foam adhesive
Summary: 5 Stars

The foam adhesive it comes with is, in a word, crap. I wasted so many squares, and applied the squares 4 different times! The thing that worked was to use your own double sided foam tape (got it at Home Depot, it's a roll that has green printing on the outside, in the painting area). With that, it stays up great and looks *AMAZING*!

Cuts easily with scissors.

Customer Review: Looks great!
Summary: 5 Stars

I used these tiles to cover the "toe kick" undernath our cabinets to match our stainless steel appliances....they were so much cheaper than buying cut-to-order stainless steel strips. They look awesome! They were a breeze to put on and cut. There are 24 tiles in a pack and they cover a lot of area and stick on with very strong backing pieces, but the instructions note you can use tile mortar as well. I highly recommend these for anyone doing a kitchen upgrade. They really do look like expensive steel tiles.
