Tools and Hardware Reviews of CH Hanson 03040 Magnetic Stud FinderCustomer Review: Complete disappointment Summary: 1 Stars
This product will find a screw in the drywall, but that's about it. Our business has half-inch drywall over metal studs. This product will pull to and hold on a screw in the drywall, but WILL NOT give any indication of the stud behind the (half-inch) drywall. I can find a screw with a magnet costing about $1, so this item is nothing to brag about.
Granted, locating a screw indicates the likelihood of a stud, but one has no way of knowing if a screw is dead-center on the stud, or barely on it at one edge or the other. Save yourself the hassle and disappointment.
Customer Review: Completely satisfied Summary: 5 Stars
I'm sure it can't be the one and only stud finder for your tool box, but I'd say most of the time, it can be used for most applications. As long as there is a screw somewhere in the wall, this thing will stick to it and I mean stick to it good. I can say compared with my electronic stud finder, this thing has given me much more accuracy in nailing the stud, so to speak!
I think every tool box should have one of these!
Customer Review: Confused at first, but now very happy Summary: 5 Stars
I didn't realize that this IS NOT YOUR STANDARD STUD FINDER!!!! It uses rare earth magnets that stick to the wall screws. Actually works really well and would be excellent with steel studs.
Customer Review: Could be worthless Summary: 1 Stars
Worthless in a wood framed house, after a 1/2 hour four walls many sq feet -nothing- it does stick strongly to steel so maybe in a steel framed house it may work.
Customer Review: Did not work for me... Summary: 1 Stars
I got this stud finder to help me install the TV mount on the wall.We live in a very old house (1910) and the walls are plaster-covered.Maybe because it is built differently from newer houses, this stud finder was not able to find any studs in our house.None even one.Is the product defective? Or...the house does not have any studs or nails on studs?
